Main Campfire - Morning before classes

Weather still too hot. Check. Cabin stinking of leeches. Check. Half naked boy. Check. Half naked boy eating. Check.

Hopefully those thunderstorms wouldn't take much longer to reach the island, but for now it was dry and Jake had taken up position at the main campfire. There was a bag from J,GOB resting on the ground between his feet. He was planning on just eating it all by himself, but if you'd ask nicely enough he might be willing to share.

"It's none of your business," she said, looking down at him with steady eyes.

She wasn't ready to try and put into words what the weekend had wrought.

"How was your weekend?"

He shrugged at the rebuke. "So it's none of my business, but you can ask me?" he pointed out. "My weekend was fine. No one showed up, which was probably well enough."

She ignored any (small) point he might have had there. Obviously she could ask about him and ignore his questions in return, yes.

"Well enough?" Rosalind inquired. "Seems a faint way to explain a weekend like that."

"I wasn't trying to explain the weekend," he pointed out. "Just saying I think it worked out best for me."

She rolled her eyes. So she wasn't on top of her game. Whatever.

"Other than the weekend, then," she said, a mocking hint in her voice. "You've been well?"

"Peachy," he was grinning, because that was definitely a win if you asked him. "Just too hot. If for some insane, crazy, lunatic reason you'd need to talk to me, I won't be in my cabin. Way too stuffy." And smelly.

"What cabin are you supposed to be in?" Rosalind asked, finally taking a stiff seat on one of the logs. "And where will you be?"

"Skittle," he replied. "You're just asking out of curiosity, right. No way you'd want to talk to me." Never mind that she was doing so now.

"Probably either trying to drown or sleeping in the preserve." He was so assuming she wouldn't come find him, she'd just find a sleeping werewolf if she did.

How little he knew her, if he thought she wouldn't fuss in her own very special way. Later.

"Don't drown," she said, smirking. "You'd reek terribly when you washed ashore."

He did know her very little, it was kind of hard getting a clear image when she kept sending such mixed signals like a fiend. A mixed signal fiend.

"Hey, I'd have you know I'd be the best smelling thing coming out of the ocean," he argued.

But it was so amusing. Half the time she did not even realize she was doing it.

"When you were bloated and unrecognizable?"

"Oh gross," he made a face. "Fine, have it your way. I won't drown so you can enjoy my nice scent." Well, he didn't smell bad actually. Kind of a woodsy scent that wasn't all from sleeping outside.

Unless you were a vampire, then he'd just smell like wet dog.

She was definitely not a vampire, at least?

"Many thanks," she said dryly. "I would never have survived without that concession."

"You're welcome," he grinned at her. "I wouldn't have wanted to worry you like that. It might have distracted you from doing your work."

She refrained from rolling her eyes at him again.

"Mmm," she replied. "My very important work."

"I don't doubt that it would be anything else," he chuckled. "Classes aren't keeping you away from it too much?"

"Hardly," she scoffed. "Two hours of class a week is nothing."

"True," he snickered. "How are you liking the angel's classes?"

"He's interesting," she said, tucking a bit of hair back behind one ear. "He doesn't stick to black and white. I like that."

"Yeah, it's the second time I've had him as teacher. He's cool, but I can't say I've had any bad teachers here so far," he said.

Clearly Jacob was in the wrong classes if he thought all the teachers were good ones. And that was just from her listening to radio.

No, Jacob thought the ones he had were good. The rest he couldn't tell.

"It was about how people suck," Jake grinned. "Except when they don't. That was the title anyway."

"What? It was fun!" he snickered. Who said he'd have to learn anything.
