It was Raven's turn again to lead the meeting, and while she was trying very hard not to dwell on last week (with the exception of crying on Karla's shoulder last night), she couldn't help but let it guide her toward a topic for the day. She hadn't let it get in the way of provided the usual assortment of snacks, though when Raven was in charge they leaned heavily toward fruits and veggies, and water and lemonade and tea rather than soda.

"Many of us here have remarkable gifts," she began, "but they have taken time to learn to use them, and we must always be on our guard to use them wisely. There may be times beyond our control, however, when our powers do not work correctly, which could lead to unintended results. In Fandom, this is often a humorous thing, thankfully, but that is not always the case. Sometimes there may be dangerous consequences."

"For example," Tara put in with a bit of a wince, "You m-might totally and completely by accident make a couple dozen people invisible. N-nobody got hurt when that happened, but that was really just luck. It can take a long time to forgive yourself for something like that. It can even tempt you to just give up."

"It's not just instances where our powers don't work right that can lead to unintended consequences," Karla added. "We have a responsibility to think things through. Just because we have the ability to do something, should we? When do we cross the line between helpful and hubris?"

"Have you ever had an instance where your gifts did not work as you anticipated, or you lost control of them?" Raven finished up. "How did you deal with this? And for the Support Reserves members with us today, what could you do to help someone so stricken to regain control or undo what they had done?"

"Or," Francine added, "How do you deal when there's nothing you can do to help?"

Have some fruit. It's good for you!

Kennedy must have slept funny last night; she had a mild neck cramp today that put a bit of an edge on her otherwise good mood. It was just the tiniest bit of feeling off, but it was annoying. She could have chosen to be irritable over the discussion today, and its ensuing reminder that she didn't have any particularly awesome gifts, but it seemed slightly more productive to consider contingency plans instead.

That, at least, was tangible. That, she could do.

She was still feeling pretty put off candy, though, so she had no problem snagging a couple of apples and crunching away. Poor apples-- they were fated to bear the brunt of her slight irritability.

Hell if she could pinpoint the cause, though.

So, Alexander had decided that perhaps this magic reserves thing was too bad. This more willing change of heart was helped considerably by how nice everyone had been last week; it was being bolstered by the lemonade this week, which he sipped at thoughtfully and enjoyably.

He always was one to appreciate the little things in life.

Peter was just going to observe again today. The fact that he would probably not make friends with his commentary about spectacular magical mistakes was the reason for his quiet.

Asuna gathered some fruit and listened to the leaders not really sure if she could relate to what they were saying.

Hello guilt my old friend, I've come to talk with you again.

Leda gave Karla a sharp look, knowing that Karla knew exactly how well Leda could relate to all this.

Kurt was juggling a handful of grapes, and occasionally ate one of them.

Squall leaned against a tree and ate an apple. Because you could look really COOL eating an apple while leaning against a tree.

Not that that was why he did it. He didn't care about that sort of thing.

Whatever.

Because everyone's had something go spectacularly wrong, right?

"One thing you could do is always be as aware of your surroundings as possible," Karla said. "Like, if you're making a casserole and your best friend is casting a spell, and you're both working in identical containers, you really ought to make sure that you remember which is which. You could save a kitchen that way."

Beat.

"Hypothetically speaking, I mean."

That would be Francine's lifeline that she was studying up close and personal. You know, the one in the palm of her hand?

"Or get another friend to ~~babysit~~ do that for you when you're trying something complicated ~~like boiling water~~," was her eventual, slightly-muffled addition to that. "It doesn't take any powers to keep track of the details and hand people the right supplies."

"Though it might take powers to boil rice without it exploding in a tidal wave of superheated sludge," Karla said sadly.

"..." The pause had, just as sadly, very little to do with shock. It was all about finding the best thing to say that wasn't Well, actually...

"Did anybody get hurt?" was what she finally settled on, throwing concern over the awkward like an afghan over that unwashable spaghetti stain on the corn of the couch.

Leda's face was completely deadpan. Hiding the fact that she was squirming inside. She was starting to wish she hadn't come today.

"I don't have any magic so I haven't made any mistakes but I've had magic go wrong around me all the time."

Like exploding clothes. That was not fun.

"Um..." Kurt looked around nervously and cleared his throat. "Sometimes, when two people combine their powers, it can help save the day, but sometimes... it can go really, really badly."

Nightcrawler + Forge = wacky extra-dimensional hijinks.

"It depends on why they lost control," Squall offered with a shrug. "If someone gets Confused, I just smack 'em in the head. But if they go Berserk, that needs a Remedy."

Once they ping in.

Raven was enjoying some of the wild blueberries she'd provided for the meeting. Mmm.

Karla was there, munching on fruit. And trying to shake the odd feeling of foreboding that she had.

Unfortunately for everyone else, Karla was pretty sure that it meant that Mrs. Beale was scheduling a portal to Fandom.

Tara nibbled on a plate of grapes and hoped none of the new people would ask her to give more details on the "turning people invisible" thing. She kept a wary eye on Raven; she'd heard Jono was back to ... Jono, and it had her feeling bad for Raven.

Francine was there, munching on a peach, thinking a little too hard about how many of these meetings would be left for her, and failing utterly to avoid getting the juice all over her notebook. And her chin.
