Cricket Campfire; Wednesday Afternoon

It was hot. Far too hot to do anything productive, outside of making a blender's worth of strawberry margaritas. It was also far too hot for pants. It was cool enough, however, to hang out by the campfire pantless (but wearing boxers, much to his dismay) and with a blender's worth of margaritas. The fire wasn't lit, but it was a nice place to sit and attempt to get a tan on his pale Canadian legs.

Jaina had a sudden flashback of hanging paralyzed from hooks while the secret leader of the war monologued at her till she could have cried and said, "Mine's not much different. I don't think anything's considered weird here. It's both comforting and... okay, a little weird."

Wallace lifted his eyebrows slightly when he read that bit of narrative (thanks for breaking the fourth wall regularly Brian Lee O'Malley), but was polite and didn't mention anything.

"I just like how I don't have to explain anything," Wallace said. "Exposition is so annoying sometimes."

"Now I feel like I should ask for details on where you're from and how you grew up, just because you said that." She wouldn't.

"I wouldn't be able to answer much of it if you did ask." Secondary character and all. "Gay Canadian is pretty much all you need to know."

"Seriously? That's all?" She considered this. "That actually does tell me a few things right there," she conceded.

"See? I don't need a back story," he said. "I'm sure the majority of you have more than enough background to go around."

"And a few people would probably tell you all about it for days on end," she agreed.

"See? Exactly," he said. "I like being the easy person in town."

Ahem.

"You may have competition," she said, before she could stop herself, and then went a little red. "Hello, person I just met. That came out wrong."

Wallace laughed. "You're actually pretty close to the truth. And I will fight for the easy king crown. Or queen. Either one."

"Something tells me this is a fight I really should not be seeing," she decided.

"Oh, come on, it'll be pretty hot," he promised. "It wouldn't be an actual fight. Just a lot of sex."

"That's the problem, and I probably know a few of the competitors." And considering her ex flirted like he breathed, he'd probably be one. She was more okay about it than she thought she'd be, too. She just, you know, didn't want to see it.

"I'll let you know--detail free--when I win," Wallace told her. "My biggest competition is leaving soon so I'm pretty confident I'll win."
