The Roof, Thursday Afternoon

After saying goodbye to Triela, Karla'd had two options: go to her room and worry or do something, anything else. Since she had pretty much spent the past week doing the former, she'd opted for the latter today. Rather than sit on her bed and brood, only putting on her cheerful face when someone stopped by, she stayed inside only long enough to change into her bodystocking and then practically flung herself into the air.

A few laps around the island and she'd actually been feeling better. The exertion was enough to take her mind off the maenad things and she found herself in much better spirits by the time she came winging back to the dorm roof.

[Open like a rooftop, for both flyers and not!]

After a strange foreshadowy day yesterday, Luke wanted nothing more than to be outdoors and be distracted by anything that had to do with deep thoughts. The roof was on the top of his list of places to hang out, if only because it didn't take much effort to get there.

He came up in time to catch Karla making her way back to the roof and for a moment there, all her could do was stare. He just wasn't used to people other than him flying around.

Now there was a great suggestion for a distraction. "Sure! It's been a while. Too long, I think."

Luke made sure he had some space to move before looking down at his shoes and saying "Maia" in a clear, authoritative tone. Immediately two pairs of white wings unfurled out of the shoes. They stretched a little, like they were glad to be out for once.

Luke pushed up a little, and flew up into a low hover, letting himself get used to the feeling of being in the air again. "Oh yeah, I've missed this."

Flying around the island, looking for spots of particularly vibrant red hair down below, Scuttle didn't even notice the flying girl until he had just enough time to avoid her in a fluff of feathers.

"I knew it!" he called. "I just knew it! Humans fly! They didn't believe me, but I knew it!"

Finding a safe place on the roof to land, he lifted a wing and called out there, "Yoo-hoo! Flying human!" The wing then waved in the air. "Hello!"

Eventually, Ender always made his way back to the roof; it was a nice place to sit, and read, or go through files if Ben seemed to be in an invasive mood.

Right now, though, he was simply out for a moment to stare across the town, which is why Karla got a slight smile as he made his way up the stairs.

"Maybe next week," Ender replied, stuffing his hands down his pocket. "I'm not feeling particularly airy at the moment." Because there was no greater form of wit than puns, obviously.

Luke nodded and kicked one out a little so Karla could get a better look. "They're from my dad. He uses them a lot in his work--messenger of the gods and all."

"Nope!" said Scuttle. "But close! Name's Scuttle! Maybe you could help me out; I'm a-looking for someone, a girl, about yay high, pretty hair," clearly, as indicated by the fluff of feathers Scuttle ruffled out on top of his head, "has legs? You seen her?"

Ender looked... fine, or as fine as he ever got - which was either a sign that he'd recuperated, or a sign that he'd shelved his issues away as neatly as he ever did. "It was good," he said, "Peaceful, though not in the dictionary kind of definition. From what I hear, your weeks have been much more interesting."

"Hallo!" Before taking off from his perch, Scuttle decided it might help to ask some of the other humans if they'd seen Ariel, too, so he called out to the boy and waved his wings. "Human boy! I'm a-looking for a girl, have you seen her?"

And Ender wouldn't let anything on; he was a little less accomodating than Ben, that way.

"Ben said something," he confirmed, "Though I wouldn't ask for more than the cliff notes."

Even after all this time in Fandom, Ender still had to blink at being addressed by a bird.

He took a slight step back. "...Hi."

[identity profile] trickydemigod.livejournal.com 2010-08-19 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm definitely up for it," he said, pushing up with his legs, so he could fly a bit higher. "And I'm glad I won't have to change clothes. I doubt I'd look as good as you."

They weren't but he made a good estimate. He actually really couldn't remember how tall Ariel was; the only time he'd seen her when she wasn't half in the water was that one time with the legs.

But this was Serious Business here, and there was no use mincing details. His wings flapped to the side a little. "We've got to find her and warn her that the evil sea witch is gonna come and get her or her father or the kingdom and so we gotta find her so we can go an' stop her!"

There was a pause, as he mustered up as serious a look as he could manage. It took a bit of effort, and, even then, he didn't really accomplish much. "Sea witches. They're bad business, you know."

"Hello!" Scuttle said again, thinking maybe the human was a little slow, so he should make with the small talk. "Great view up here, wouldn't you say? I bet you can see the whole town from up here!"
