Fourth Floor Common Room, Tuesday Morning

By now Jo was acutely aware of just how little time she had left in Fandom, but rather than mope, she'd decided to be proactive about things.

Which was why the floor of the fourth floor common room was (barring enough room to step around them) completely covered in road-maps for every state from Maryland to Nebraska.

She also had her laptop open to several news sites. No reason.

"And it doesn't mean you shouldn't," he added, "only that it makes the first step more difficult than it would otherwise be." Plus there was the daunting possibility of 'for a while at least' becoming something more permanent. "You're going to have fun," he assured Jo.

"Yeah." Because Jo was one of those weirdos who found being in mortal danger fun. "And it's not like I'll be out of contact or anything. Just a letter away."

"You'll be sick of hearing from me. Lamenting classes and the fencing club and getting turned into a pony again or getting a roommate who doesn't bathe."

"You know what I'd suggest for that last?"

"A bucket of holy water."

Edmund grinned. "I'll keep that in mind." He looked around for a moment. "Do you have a smaller map you could use to do the rest of your planning?"

Jo nodded. "Yeah, I do."

"Then come out with me. It's too nice of a day to sit inside."

"Give me a moment to pick these up." Jo grinned. "It'd be wrong to throw buckets of holy water at people at some point, wouldn't it?"

"Only if they're vampires," Edmund reasoned.

"We should just make it buckets of plain water then."

Edmund pushed himself to his feet and retrieved his tea cup. "I'll fetch some buckets."
