The Deck, Wednesday Morning

It was a nice morning, with the first hint of fall in the still-warm air. Didi carried a mug of tea onto the deck to enjoy it, feeling philosophical. If she counted the time in New York with Sexton, her first anniversary as a human would be Friday. She wondered if she should throw herself a party to mark the milestone -- if she was still around at all. The feeling she wouldn't be kept tugging at her. Mortal life felt like a dress she had almost outgrown, a sentimental favorite she'd need to give up on soon enough.

She tried to shake it off as she sipped her drink. Going or staying -- whichever was going to happen, would happen without her worrying about it. For now, there was slightly spicy tea to drink and a blue sky to watch.

Dinah was buzzing around trying to pack, get ready for the party tonight, and say good-bye to people. So she took a minute to flop down on the deck near Didi on her way out to get supplies for her trip out on Friday.

"Hey! Are you going to the party tonight?"

"In itself not a reason not to go, but hey, Jono won't be there to either be happy or call a halt, so yeah," Dinah laughed. She leaned back on her hands and grimaced. "For me, it's an excuse to quit packing for a while. I should've gotten everything done way earlier than this."

All in favor of unexploded heads say aye? Aye!

"Just getting ready. Friday," Dinah said, sighing. "I think the point of packing is to make you want to leave so you don't have to deal with it any more... and reeeeally? Kissing and laps?" she teased. "You guys are too cute, you know that, right?"

"I'm glad you're aware of your impact on us," Dinah told her solemnly, then grinned, the usual giddy cut with an ache. "Heh. Thanks. I don't think we're as cute as you, or a basket of kittens, but... It's been great."

"No." Dinah sighed, pulling up her legs to hug them. "I kind of wanted to try, but-- we're from different worlds. And neither of wants to leave our own. There's long distance, and then there's really long distance... Staying friends, though. He's too awesome to lose."

She would've wanted to try. But in months of talking about it, she'd still never been able to completely disagree with Jaime's logic on this.

"Yeah?" Dinah smiled a little. "Thanks. And -- no, probably not. But. I'm going to distract myself with a roadtrip when I leave on Friday. And by the time I get home classes will be starting. Keeping busy helped, kinda, last time." She swallowed, then said, "I'm going to text everyone a lot. You too, if you want. Things like: Am about to jump off a building. Wheee!"

Dinah grinned. "In a safe and environmentally friendly way. Don't want to make the street-sweepers clean up after me." She shook her head. "But. Yeah. If Tony's experience off-island are anything to judge by, you can leave Fandom, but it doesn't leave you."
