Magic + Support Reserves, The Deck, Wednesday After Classes

It was a new semester! It was a new Magic + Support Reserves meeting! Karla hadn't provided the snacks this time!

It was all very exciting. Exciting in a way that made Tara nervous -- eek, public speaking -- but exciting. Arrivals who had followed the handwavey signs to the meeting were being encouraged to take hard candy from a bowl as they joined the group, but not to eat them.

Raven was on edge as well, but for an entirely different reason. She was unsettled by the idea that Zatanna might show up to join the Reserves, but she wasn't about to let her personal feelings disrupt the group. So whether Zatanna was there or not, Raven was going to smile pleasantly and welcome everyone to the meeting.

"Welcome to the reserves meeting," Tara said with a smile, once she realized everybody was waiting for her to say something. "If you're new, it's good to have you. If you're not new, it's still really good to have you. Anyhow .... we come together to hang out, but also to talk about how to use our skills to help out if things go wrong. A lot of us are witches. We also have some really good healers, some incredibly smart researchers, and s-some people who don't really come with a label. You're all welcome."

"We're playing a game today," she added, gesturing to the candy. "For every piece of candy you took, you have to share one fact about yourself other than your name and where you're from. it could be, um ... favorite movie, favorite food, favorite place you visited, most embarrassing moment ... whatever you feel like saying."

She pointed at random into the group. "You can go first."

Dolf had a phone burning a metaphorical hole in his pocket, and so he'd turned up, even if he was still highly skeptical about witches and magic. But that message had been the first thing to give him some sense of purpose, something he desperately needed now that he couldn't contact his parents, and even if it might not have been aimed at him-- a sign was a sign.

He was there, hands in his pockets, doing his best not to project lost.

He was pretty good at that; especially after he'd spotted Tara.

Elphaba was not much of a mingler. She typically was outcast from such events and left to amuse herself. In this instance, however, she tried to not simply stand off to one side. She took a single piece of the hard candy, not wishing to seem greedy or take more than she needed.

With no classes on Wednesdays, Kennedy was looking forward to these meetings even more than she had; finally, something to do that wasn't training (not that she didn't love her training) or the introductory course in Latin that Constance was making her do as an independent study now, for some bizarre reason that she was sure had to be punishment for something.

She was mostly leaning up against a tree, poking at the calendar on her phone and casting an appraising glance around the group. It'd be interesting to see what the mix was like now.

Without classes today, Scully had run around the island again, and then wound up back at the dorms in time for Magic/Support Reserves, so, why not? She'd gotten a lot of coffee out of yesterday's meeting.

And effectively, Zatanna was there, being very, very quiet; she didn't want to get into a fight, and honestly, not going to the reserve would have been more than enough, but she also wanted to learn and really, if she could deal with this, both Raven and the scary blonde should at least hear her before jumping at her.

Or so she hoped. Seeing Tara then made her think that maybe, maaaaaaaaaaybe for some odd reason the girl she had talked on the picnic hadn't decided to hate her too, but anyway, she had to try.

So yeah, being silent over here.

Sookie was fresh from her only classes today, her eyes wide as she took in the newcomers to the reserves. She kept her mental shields up, if only to be able to concentrate on what others were actually saying with their mouths, not their brains.

Harper felt that her mingling skills could use some work, so she was there to practice. She was wearing her favorite that, the one that involved a real flower pot filled with real dirt and a real flower.

Alex had no classes on Wednesdays, so the Magic and Support Reserves meeting would get her undivided attention.

She took in the new people at the meeting and wondered what their stories were.

Gabrielle had missed these meetings. For the food, yes, but the camaraderie was nice, too. She'd argue that happily. (Don't let her.)

She was a little sorry not to be meeting in the preserve, though; she missed the woods already.

Maladicta had an umbrella and what appeared to be a large container of coffee. Not the best coffee, mind.

Because, while Alexander might manage to make her share with the others, she wasn't about to give them her favorite blend.

Considering the excitement of all the new students, Alexander found himself feeling fairly relaxed for today's meeting; not too relaxed, of course. He was still on his guard for the muddle he'd made last semester regarding his magical abilities, but, really, either no one noticed at all or everyone was being polite about not mentioning it, and the new kids could get all the attention now.

Something about himself. A few months back, he'd have been less torn about it, but, as Dolf reminded himself, it wasn't like he really had anything to hide. The words were the only problem.

He took one candy, and smiled. At least he'd been robbed of the ability to hesitate, too. "I'm Dolf," he volunteered, "And I play football. Since I was six."

That was easy enough.

"I am Raven, and I am from a place called Azarath, though my mother was from Earth," Raven said when it was her turn. She only had three pieces of candy (and she'd deliberately picked out lemon ones, as she liked those best), so she shared, "I am an empath and a healer, I am a vegetarian, and I enjoy watching Rumor Gal." Anyone on the fifth floor who got in her way on Monday nights in the common room had best beware.

Jono had nearly opted to pass up the candy entirely, because... well, duh.

But when he realized that it was for the activity, he made a reach for one piece. Might as well participate, at least a little.

Easy enough. Now he was going to look for somebody to give this candy to before it could get all sticky and disgusting in his hand.

Tara had taken four pieces of candy. "I'm Tara," she began, though that didn't count. "I've been going to school here for about 15 months. My mom started teaching me magic when I was little."

Two more pieces of candy. "My favorite color is purple," she said, then triumphantly added, "and my girlfriend is named Kennedy."
