Fifth Floor Common Room, Saturday morning

Bruce was just going to walk past the common room and back to his dorm after his morning run, but a glance into the room meant that he saw one of the more bizarre sights he'd seen recently. There was a disembodied hand holding the remote control. It was channel surfing. Occasionally it would use the on-screen guide and scroll quickly through that.

As Bruce walked into the common room to investigate more closely, another hand went flying through the air. Out of pure instinct, Bruce raised his hand. The second Thing made solid contact with Bruce's hand, making this the first high five Bruce had ever experienced with a disembodied hand.

A small detail, but Bruce noticed both hands were left hands. It seemed strange to have two lefties in the same room, especially under these circumstances. All this weirdness meant that Bruce needed to take a seat and just observe for a while. He couldn't shake the feeling that the second thing was observing him right back, possibly looking for another excuse to high five. The first one, clearly, was too busy observing the TV.

[OOC: Just saying, if I were a disembodied hand, I would never stop giving high fives. Anyway, I'm up early on a Saturday, why not have an open CR?

ETA: Running off for an hour or so, then pinging will be slowish.]

"I'm just that inquisitive," he joked, smirking. The leather just meant she was getting ogled every so often. "No hands where you're from?"
wrongkindofsith: (Your mouth moves and nonsense comes out)

Cara was well aware of the ogling, she just didn't care about it. "Plenty. They just tend to be attached to bodies and don't move when they're not."

"You could always try and take advantage of 'em," Alex pointed out, shrugging. "Train them to do your bidding?"
wrongkindofsith: (At least one of us has a clue)

Cara wouldn't have been any kind of Mord'Sith if the thought hadn't already crossed her mind. "I prefer those I train to be possessed of all their body parts. That way threatening to maim them is much more effective."

"You have much use of maiming here?" Alex wondered, glancing around the common room. "Seems like a pointless hobby."
wrongkindofsith: (Pretty sure you're insane)

[personal profile] wrongkindofsith 2010-09-04 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's not a hobby, it's a tool," Cara explained.

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-09-04 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh huh." Alex nodded in a way that said he didn't really believe that. "How many people have you maimed lately?"
wrongkindofsith: (Your mouth moves and nonsense comes out)

"No one." It was one of those thing that Richard got unreasonably upset about her even suggesting, let alone actually doing.

"You sure your maiming skills aren't getting rusty?" he teased. "Or is it like riding a bike?"
wrongkindofsith: (Pretty sure you're insane)

[personal profile] wrongkindofsith 2010-09-04 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Cara didn't actually know what a bike was, but she could guess from context. "It's just a matter of knowing where to cut and making sure to cauterise."

"Where the hell are you from?" Alex laughed, shaking his head. "I've met violent people but you seem unusually focused."
wrongkindofsith: (Pretty sure you're insane)

[personal profile] wrongkindofsith 2010-09-05 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Cara had only been answering his questions, she'd hardly call that unusually focused. "The Midlands."

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-09-05 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Never heard of it," Alex said, shaking his head. "That anywhere near Nebraska?"
wrongkindofsith: (Your mouth moves and nonsense comes out)

[personal profile] wrongkindofsith 2010-09-05 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
"No. It's in another world."

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-09-05 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
"That explains why I've never heard of it," he said, wondering if he should have guessed that. "They do a lot of maiming there? Sounds like a great vacation spot."
wrongkindofsith: (Pretty sure you're insane)

It was belatedly occurring to Cara that answering his questions sincerely might have been a misstep. She blamed the distraction on the hands. She wondered if she could pass her previous statements off as a joke. "Only the on second weekend of every month."
