It was safe to say that Percy had been looking forward to this since he and Luke had made plans. It wasn't just getting to fight someone that he could go all out against, it was getting to fight Luke. Every single time he'd come up against Luke in the last three years, it'd been when Luke had a gang of monsters and minions at his back.

This would be one on one. When he'd met Luke, he'd been easily bested, easily shown up and easily embarrassed. He'd learned though and he wasn't the same person now as he was back then. Percy didn't know if he could beat Luke but he knew he'd give him a tough fight.

For now, he was taking some easy swings at the practice dummies, warming up with Riptide while he waited for his cousin to show up.

Luke raised an eyebrow. "Who acted like it?"

"Jason," he replied, looking almost amused. "I'm sure he'll be upset if he finds out I cut your arm. He might even come after me."

Percy snickered at that and shook his head. "Terrifying."

"He won't come after you if I tell him that I won," Luke said, deciding to remind Percy of that since he didn't seem to like Jason all that much. "He's a nice guy, if you're nice to him."

From what Luke heard, Percy wasn't being all that nice.

Percy predictably scowled at that. He'd been wondering if he'd get out of this without Luke gloating. Apparently not.

"No reason to be nice to him," he said after he'd wiped the scowl off his face. "Not yet, anyway."

"Whatever, Percy," Luke said, shaking his head. The kid had some terrible social skills. Luke was almost always nice to people. It's how he ended up with spies in Camp Half Blood. "He won't bother you about the fight. We were just having fun, right?"

Fun that involved blood and oddly homoerotic positioning. Completely normal.

"Hey, I'm doing my best," Percy said, shrugging. He hadn't tried to kill Luke since the first day. That was progress. "But yeah, we were just having fun. It was kind of nice to be able to go all out against someone."

Wesley wasn't a bad opponent but he was a son of Aphrodite compared to Luke.

Luke nodded in agreement. "You know some of the mortals aren't that bad at fighting."

He hadn't fought any himself, but he could see what they could do back in Rapture.

"Yeah, that's what I've been hearing from people," Percy said, shrugging and running a hand through his sweaty hair. "You spend three years fighting demigods and other weird things, you get a little nervous at fighting regular mortals though."

"Yeah, I thought that too at first," he said, his eyes following the movement of Percy's hand. It was because he was easily distracted. No other reason. Really. "But they're pretty tough. And it's not like your sword can hurt them."

"Yeah, only your sword can do that," Percy said, glancing at the back of his shoulder again and shaking his head. Trust Luke to catch him with a move that even his ADHD couldn't predict.

Lucky for Luke, Percy didn't notice that he was being watched so he didn't see anything wrong about getting his sweaty hair out of his eyes and leaving it sticking up on his head.

"If a mortal wants a go at me, I'll probably give 'em one," he added. He didn't see any harm in it and it wasn't like he could fight Nico and Luke only. They had other things to do. "Better than nothing."

"I'm sure you'll have plenty of volunteers," Luke said, smiling a bit at how stupid Percy's hair looked now. "You have a habit of annoying people."

"Yeah, I've heard that before." Mostly from his deadbeat stepfather. And sometimes from Annabeth but she never stayed mad at him for long.

"Everyone's has to have a talent, right?" Percy didn't have any issue owning being annoying. He'd gone through school with one friend for the most part and Grover had turned out to be a satyr.

His social skills did need work.

"Some talent." It'll get him punched in the face one day.

Luke took another look at his arm, pleased that he wasn't bleeding as badly now. "I should probably get this cleaned up."

"Yeah, me too." He couldn't even see how much he was bleeding but he knew he'd be heading straight for the showers. "See you later, I guess?"

Luke nodded. "Yeah, I'll see you later."

Annoying as Percy was sometimes, Luke actually liked talking to him. It was weird.
