Reserves: Behind the Dorms, Tuesday After Classes [9/7]

Zack was doing that bouncing thing again. This probably wouldn't come as a surprise to anybody who had been here even just last week, right? Zack bounced. Birds flew. Fandom was weird. Life went on. But today, he was doing that bouncing thing with a small stack of notepads in his arms, and a few pens sticking out of his pockets.

"We're having another discussion meeting today," he informed the group as they gathered for the reserves meeting. "We'll get into the more hands-on stuff as the semester goes on, but we have to cover the basics first, you know? And today, we're covering the really, really basic basics. We're covering supplies."

"Like what would be usefull the next time the island is invaded," Maladicta added from her spot once more in the shade of the building. "Whether you were here for the last attack on the island, or new here, we would like to hear your ideas."

There was a pause before she added, "Cookies don't count, no matter how much Zack may claim otherwise."

"Hey!"

Kennedy rolled her eyes mildly at both of them. "We know, discussion time is a little light on the action, but having everybody on the same page is a good thing, so. Shelving the cookie debate." A beat. "For now, anyway. Everybody's gonna pair off here and come up with a little back-to-school supply list. Sort of-- if by supplies you mean stuff you're going to want to have in case we get invaded again."

Cookies and coffee. You guys know the drill.

Ben chugged his first cup of coffee just in case there were any more team building exercises that would deprive him of it before he glanced up to see who else was around.

Coffeeeeee. Sometimes Scully missed iced tea, but that was an emotional thing. Coffee was more in line with getting things accomplished.

Kurt grabbed a handful of cookies and looked at the notepads warily. Were they going to have to do homework???

It was different, being here when Cally wasn't under the impression that it would be the only meeting she attended. She wasn't sure how she felt about that, but the combination of caffeinated drink and baked sweet seemed designed to treat both ends of the spectrum from melancholy to guiltily intrigued.

Firekeeper wasn't much one for coffee, usually, but cookies? Cookies were being eaten.

Squall was there. "Mingling" was maybe too strong a word for the way he was hanging back and glaring at people.

Goose was once again there, he wasn't mingling but he was there.

Of course Alexander knew the drill.

Alexander loved the drill.

Who couldn't love cookies and coffee? Even evil, enslaving magicians loved coffee.

But not cookies. Poor cookie-less childhood!

Katniss took some cookies and coffee both, curling up in a spot with a smiling sort of ease.

Grab a notepad and a pencil, grab a partner, and come up with a list of what you think is a necessity in case of future invasion.

Ben printed "LIGHTSABER" in big block letters at the top of his paper before starting to list more mundane things like food and water.

Scully frowned, and wrote:

Ammunition
medical supplies - bandages, surgical thread, surgical instruments, drugs...
Matches, firestarters
fire suppression materials
blankets
barriers? Like they use at concerts?....

Kurt stared at his blank notepad for a while, then put up a hand. "I'd like to re-open the debate on cookies?" he announced.

Wesley's list may have been kind of geared toward the types of supernatural problems he was used to dealing with.

Stakes, crosses, vials of holy water, crossbows, etc
Axes, swords for those familiar with their usage
Tranquilizer guns - ask Giles for reccomendation
Spellbooks and texts to consult for research
Mystical tokens and spell ingredients - herbs, orbs of thessala, etc
Explosives? Rocket launcher?

That was it. Nope, nothing about food or shelter.

Cally had her data-pad, and was tapping at that instead of using the notebook, but the screen was large enough to share easily with others ~~because it was from the high-tech future as imagined in the seventies~~.

At the top of her list were the standard immediate needs: food and water. Third after those, though, even before Weapons, was Effective communication system.

She glanced down at one of the only three outfits she had -- and really, outfits was putting it kindly since two of them were essentially shipboard coveralls -- then added access to protective clothing.

Presumably, food and shelter would be taken care of by the school, or the town, or someone else in charge. The Reserves were only concerned with fighting, right?

Squall fished around in his pockets, counting the number of potions and remedies and things that he had in there. (And don't ask how it all fit in his pockets, especially in skintight leather pants. Just... don't.) Satisfied, he scribbled the word "Nothing" on his notepad, and was done.

Alexander had...always been fairly resourceful. In the case of an emergency, he'd always been able to find what he needed, as arbitrary as it may seem. Funny how that worked...as it was, he had trouble trying to think of what to put on a list. Oh, sure, he had plenty of ideas, but they were too many ideas. He felt he should edit some, and, as it was, all he had written was:

A belt with lots of handy pockets

It was a good start.

And topical.

A vampire, a (potential) Slayer, and a puppy walk into a bar...

(And ping in first.)

Zack? Still bouncing a little, and standing around with extra notepads, if you happen to run out of space on the one that you've got.

Yes, he'd had the coffee again.

Kennedy had a notebook and pen of her own, and a list about two dozen items long.

She'd pare it down!

...eventually. After it tripled in length.

NOT IT.
