Second Floor Common Room, Friday Evening

After a long day out fighting creepy zombie piranha fish, Karla had fought her way to the castle, beyond the goblin city to Pizza Planet, in the vague hopes that perhaps someone had decided to go in early and gotten stuck. Or something.

Much to Karla's surprise, Pizza Planet was actually open and mostly staffed. The denizens of Fandom were even more jaded by the invasions than the students, and apparently decided a paycheck was more important than the piranhas.

They hadn't been particularly happy to see her. Probably because it had been a very light day for them, work-wise.

But she'd shown up and hadn't moved until they completed her order and now Karla had a giant stack of pizzas to feed people along with a few two litres of soda and a giant salad. After a long day of fighting (or even not), she figured that fresh, hot food that didn't come from a microwave would be appreciated.

She was still debating turning on cheesy horror movies like she'd talked about with Ben, though. That might be a bit much after today.

[Open!]

"I would not know," Elphaba said. "While I am certain they are mindless beasts, I could not bring myself to try and attack them when I could safely avoid them instead. But I can imagine it was quite exerting. Perhaps I can fetch you some tea?"

"Oh, honey, no, don't worry about it," Sookie said, waving a hand dismissively. "I've got pizza and plans to sleep early. And I didn't get hurt. As far as attackin' 'em, my powers stun rather than kill, for the most part, and it's good practice, so I'm not feeling too guilty. Smart of you to stay inside, though."

"You have powers?" Elphaba said, thinking being sensible was different from smart, but she still didn't know how to take a compliment. She was far more interested in anything special about the girl. "May I ask what they are?"

Politeness wasn't her usual modus operandum, but it worked rather well now that people treated her the same way.

"I'm telepathic, to start," Sookie drawled easily. "And when I get keyed up, I can shoot lightning kinda stuff from the palms of my hands." She inclined her head a little. "And you? I'm Sookie, by the way."

Elphaba shook her head. "I'm Elphaba," she introduced. She could speak of what could happen if she got riled up, but it was not something to share with a stranger. It wasn't something she even thought to share with anyone, really. A secret she held very close. "And what you see is the only thing unusual about me," she lied. "And it is unusual, even in Oz."

[identity profile] justwantsquiet.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
"It isn't so unusual for here," Sookie offered with a soft smile. "I mean, we're all kinda weird. And I know what it's like to be considered a freak in your own home, so. You've got my sympathy."

Elphaba nodded, as much as she could believe Sookie's words. It was hard to imagine, but she felt that even pretty blonds must find themselves othered in different lands.

"I do not need your sympathy here, though," she said, as odd as that was to say. "You are right in it not being unusual. Not even my being from Oz has been considered such, here."

"I assume you don't mean Australia," Sookie mused.

"No," Elphaba said. "It is the Oz of the children's story, I understand. I've not read it nor do I plan to. Kate made it clear that it was not an accurate story."

Sookie considered her for a second, thinking back on the whole Oz myth and what the greenness might mean. "I always thought it was just a story," she finally concluded. "Interesting."

Elphaba nodded. "I only mention it as a frame of reference. It allows many to imagine something closer to what the land I am from is like, even if it is not entirely true."
