4th Floor Common Room [Tuesday afternoon]

Proto had an actual cookbook out. He was staring at it dubiously, and with a mild expression of confusion, but he had it out, dang it! Of course he didn't recognize a number of ingredients listed on the page he had open, and he wasn't entirely clear on how one properly 'sautéed' things, but he was going to try.

Though... any help would probably be appreciated.

[Open and all that stuff.]

"It did have its downsides," William admitted. Give him a minute or two and he'd be getting to the merciless slicing. "But all things considered, I feel I still came out ahead in the end." He'd gotten Rilla to agree to dine with him one night, which he figured definitely outweighed the onion's negative influence.

"That is most excellent to hear, William," said Alexander, who would have felt even more confident in his assessment of his friend's disposition if he knew such fortunate details. "I feel much the same about my own, and, if anything, today is another day, in another week, and we at least have this week to steel ourselves for what is likely to be a very interesting weekend heading our way."

"Very interesting?" William echoed. "Oh. Yes. Quite," he managed, a bit awkwardly as he remembered that it was 'Parents Weekend' that was coming up.

"Do you know if you'll have anyone visiting?" Alexander asked. "I swear, it's all my sister can speak of in her latest letters..."

"No, I'm afraid not," William admitted, face falling a little. "There's really- no one."

Alexander felt his face go red, as well as the strong urge to take his foot and shove it into his mouth. "Oh," he said quietly, "I am so sorry, William; I did not realize."

"How could you, when it is a fact I haven't shared overmuch?" William said easily. "Think nothing of it."
