Jaime had popcorn, chips and salsa, and candy corn (hey, it was that time of year!) spread out and was flopped back on the couch sorting through a small stack of DVDs. He wasn't entirely sure what he wanted to... Aha!

Giant robots with over-the-top (if somewhat awkward) CGI effects were just what the doctor ordered. Not that the movie was really good, but Jaime wasn't looking for good.

And at least it wasn't the sequel.

She raised her hand and pointed at him. "See? See? The very fact that you know there's a list, means I'm in danger of not getting any more cookies! Totally not a good idea to tell you more. I'd have to erase your memory and you might forget a recipe or something."

She turned her pointing finger into a wave. "This is not the conversation topic you are looking for," she droned.

"Nice try, but now that I now about the list, I think it's my sworn duty to withhold cookies until I know who's on it."

Yeah. He was totally making that up.

"Sworn to who?" Momoko tried to sound indignant. "Is there someone else you're baking for? I have BFF rights, you know!"

"Hey, if you're not telling me about your other friends, I can't be expected to tell you anything, now can I?"

[heromaniac]

"You totally can too!" She nodded. "I give you permission."

[weldedtomyspine]

"Nope. Not going to work. Nice try, though." Like he was going to fall for that.

[heromaniac]

"Thanks," she grinned and winked up at him. "Am I off cookie probation, now?"

[weldedtomyspine]

"Um. No. Not until you give me the list."

It wasn't Jaime's fault. It's not like he made the rules.

Oh. Wait.

[heromaniac]

She sulked. "And what if I don't want to give you the list? Maybe I don't want you to know how many best friends I have."

[weldedtomyspine]

"Then maybe you don't want any more cookies." Uh huh.

[heromaniac]

"Maybe? Maybe if that's all you got, maybe I do need to move on." And the sun will come up in the NORTH tomorrow. "Find someone who can do cookies and cakes, maybe. I should totally consult my list before entering any more deals with you."

"Well, you've only got..." Jaime shifted, pretending to look at his watch. "Another hour to decide."

[heromaniac]

Momoko frowned. "What? Why the time limit? What happens in an hour?"

"You run out of time." Hello circular reasoning!

[heromaniac]

"Jaime!" She couldn't help the laughter and almost spilled the popcorn as she turned around and made a face at him.

[weldedtomyspine]

"You asked!" he shot back, totally failing to suppress a laugh of his own.

[heromaniac]

"I did." She laughed and settled back again. "Ah well. I guess if I'm being timed I should hurry up and go get that list, huh? Find out if there's a better best friend out there for me?"

"Tick-tock-tick-tock," Jaime sing-songed.

[heromaniac]

"I don't suppose I could get the clock paused until after the movie?" Which was when she'd said he could tickle her, but shhhh.

"Or were you going to add this one to the list for me to re-watch, too." Oh, the horror of having to re-watch a giant robots movie!

[weldedtomyspine]

"Nope. You'll just have to multi-task. Now snap to it."

"But the list is all the way upstairs. And I'd have to find it, decode it... I dunno." She sighed. "That's an awful lot of work."

[weldedtomyspine]

"Well, I suppose you'll have plenty of time to look it over once we're no longer friends," Jaime pointed out. "So I guess you have that going for you."

[heromaniac]

"Oh, no. You don't get away that easily!" Momoko shook her head. "If I don't make other arrangements, you still have the contract."

[weldedtomyspine]

"Hey, I don't renig on deals! But if we're no longer friends, the cake will be the last thing I ever bake for you."

Sure it would.

"You know, I've never eaten one of your cakes." Momoko plucked a super buttery piece of popcorn from the bowl. "Maybe I should wait until I've tasted all of your culinary abilities to decide if I need a new best friend? That would totally give you more time to impress me, too!"
