Third Floor Common Room, Monday Morning

Kate had not been pleased to find herself still a dude when she'd woken up today. It wasn't that she had a huge problem with it as such herself, it was just that she was kind of worried for the sanity of a certain someone else.

But there was nothing she could really do about it, so she'd just wandered down into the common room and decided it was a day for baking. Everyone would appreciate chocolate chip muffins, right?

(Kate, by the by, was not mature enough to not laugh at the fact that they had nuts in them.)

A couple of batches of muffins baked and set on the counter to be taken, she flopped down onto one of the couches and started leafing through an issue of Cosmo. Trying to see if she could get a male perspective on it today.

Kate... couldn't help looking a little bit amused at that. "So, what's so wrong about being a chick for a while?"

"Um, I dunno," he said, staring at Kate like she was insane. "Maybe the fact that I don't wanna be a girl for a little while? Maybe that one. Yeah, that one."

So pissy.

So, so pissy. There was kind of a nagging feeling in the back of Kate's mind, telling her she should be able to recognize this one. "Uh huh," she nodded, "I think we covered that already. I was more wondering why you don't wanna be that."

"There has to be a specific reason other than the fact that I don't want to be a girl?" Percy wondered, raising an eyebrow.

"Well, you're talking to someone who usually is one," Kate pointed out. Oh so helpfully. "So it'd sound better to me if there was a specific reason, and not just that you're categorically against the whole idea."

"How about because I like being a boy better?" Percy suggested a little sarcastically. "Or maybe that my mom will recognize me if I'm a boy and not a freaking girl."

"Doubt you've even given being a girl a chance," Kate replied, unaffected. "I bet you've just been this much of a bitch about it the whole time. It's gonna wear off, you know."

"Why should I give it a chance?" Percy wondered, half glaring. "I don't want to be a girl so being a girl isn't fun for me."

"You don't even know if it'd be fun," Kate pointed out. "Though I have to give you props for how committed you are to embracing the annoying side of girlhood."

Which had really given her an idea of whos she was talking to. And there was an easy way to find out.

"Kid."

She'd done that on purpose and Percy narrowed his eyes at her, really close to just yelling. After Nico being a complete idiot and getting all serious and then the thing with Luke, his mood was just completely awful.

"So what, you're telling me you're having loads of fun in that body?"

Oh, bingo. Of course she'd done it on purpose.

"I'm open to the possibilities," Kate said, shrugging. "'Cause I know it won't last and I think it's kinda interesting."

"What possibilities?" Percy wondered, all bad attitude and pissiness. "What, you wanna go into the mens room or something stupid like that?"

Oh, Percy. He was such a major cause for eyerolling. "No." She left that to her mom. "Maybe you're just too immature to get this stuff."

"You know, not everyone has to like this stuff," Percy informed her a little pissily. "Just because I don't doesn't mean I'm immature."

"Look, all I'm saying is you might have a better time if you just gave it a chance," Kate replied, actually managing a friendlier tone for a moment. "Unless you actually like acting like someone took a dump in your cereal."

"I gave it a chance yesterday and my cousin decided it would be a good idea to start a fight and try and yank this stupid hair out," Percy shared, still sounding pissy.

It was like a default tone of voice now.

Kate was going to start thinking he was incapable of speaking in any other way, soon.

"So, you were acting like a couple of chicks," Kate noted, a little bit amused until another point of that statement got her attention. "... Wait, you have relatives here?"

"Yeah, two of them." That he knew of. He hoped there were no other demigods running around. "Why?"

"No particular reason," she replied with a shrug of one shoulder. "People who have family here are just kind of a minority."

A minority she... couldn't quite decide how she felt about, sometimes.

"It's just two cousins and it's nothing special. I have a lot of cousins." Percy shrugged carelessly. "They're both annoying sometimes."

"I'm so surprised," Kate deadpanned, dryly. "So, which ones are they?"

"Luke and Nico," he said and shrugged. "They live on this floor. You might know them."

"I met Nico at the picnic." And she was a little surprised to find out he was related to Percy, yes. "Is Luke that guy that used to live on some other floor?"

"Yeah, he moved up here recently," Percy said, nodding. "I'd say it was to bother me but I think he just wanted to room with someone familiar. So yeah, we're related. Whoopty doo."

Oh, another eye roll, just for him. "You're such a ray of sunshine, kid." And Kate was not helping, and she knew it. But she couldn't help herself.
