Proto had recently discovered Hong Kong action movies. Yesterday had been given over to them almost entirely, and so far so had today. He'd finally made it through the stack he'd obtained from who-knows-where and was now sitting down to put in Crimson Drop. He hadn't taken a look to see how long the movie was, but for some reason he had the feeling he was going to need more popcorn.

And tons of other junk food.

Fortunately, Proto had become quite adept at collecting junk food, so the spread was quite impressive.

Wandering about in search of adventure (or at least something to pass the time), Leda came into the room and noticed two things right away. Junk food, and some fancy footwork on the TV.

"Ooh, what's on?"

"It's this big, epic movie that's apparently based on some really famous book or something." He'd read that on the back of the case.

"Most of the epic movies are, I've heard." Leda nodded. "Is it any good?"

"Ten minutes in, but I'm enjoying it so far?" Not that Proto was the most discerning film critic of all time.

Leda didn't consider herself knowledgeable enough to be very discerning. There were very few movies in Bordertown, and they didn't always work. But most of what she'd seen since coming to Fandom she'd liked.

"They have these where you're from?"

"Movies? Yeah." No one really watched them much, but... they had them. "You?"

"Sometimes. Technology's wonky in Bordertown, so sometimes the flick being advertised wouldn't be what wound up on the film though."

"A movie's a movie, right?" Proto asked with a friendly shrug. He'd never been all that picky.

"That was our attitude yeah." And when the projector just refused to work at all, or the film turned blank, some folks in the audience could always be counted out to put on an impromptu play or something. "Usually what we got were all out of date too. Not that we cared, time works differently there too."

"Sounds... pretty confusing."

"We don't leave town much, so it tends to cut down on the jet lag. But I've heard from people who do make trips to and from the border that it can be confusing. Sometimes they get to Faery or the world and only a week has passed where it's been a month for us. Or it's been longer there and shorter for us. We always need to check the calendar."

The spread was somewhat less impressive, since part of it was now in front of Kurt's seat on the couch. "What are we watching?"

Proto just looked over at Kurt in tolerant amusement. "I'm watching this awesome epic action movie. I think you're watching your back in case someone takes issue with you stealing their food."

Proto didn't take issue, of course, but... it could happen!

Kurt gave Proto a wholesome sort of smile. "Oh, I'm not worried! The person whose food I stole is a very good friend who would never get angry at that!"

"What if this person has only been acting like your friend, trying to get close enough to... um... do something nefarious?"

Like... SOMETHING!

"Well, he'd better not," Kurt answered with a grin. "Or he'll be sorrrrrrry!"

"Oh? Sorrier than when his junk food is stolen?"

Kurt raised his arms and wiggled his fingers in a spooky sort of way. "Ohhhhhhhh, yes. Much, MUCH sorrier."

"Oooooh," Proto shuddered dramatically. "That is very creepy. And ominous."

"It IS," Kurt agreed. "VERY."

He wiggled his fingers again, and grabbed a handful of popcorn. He disappeared in a puff of smoke, and reappeared almost immediately. Then he proceeded to look very, very innocent as the handful of popcorn fell towards Proto's head from the OTHER puff of smoke that had momentarily been on the ceiling.

Proto hadn't been in Fandom for so long that his reflexes had dulled, he rolled clear of the falling popcorn, and clear off the couch. "Oooooh. Looks like someone's spoiling for a fight," he chuckled.

Kurt looked around innocently. "Who? I do not think there is anyone who is doing that, here."

"Hey handsome." Leda waved to Kurt.

Kurt scratched his head and looked around, confused. "Uhhhh... he must have just left!"

Leda chuckled and shook her head. "Nope he's still here. Beauty's all in the eye of the beholder Kurt and I think you're very cute."
