4th Floor Common Room [Sunday afternoon]

Proto had recently discovered Hong Kong action movies. Yesterday had been given over to them almost entirely, and so far so had today. He'd finally made it through the stack he'd obtained from who-knows-where and was now sitting down to put in Crimson Drop. He hadn't taken a look to see how long the movie was, but for some reason he had the feeling he was going to need more popcorn.

And tons of other junk food.

Fortunately, Proto had become quite adept at collecting junk food, so the spread was quite impressive.

[Open as such things are. And Proto's always willing to share his food.]

And she didn't. But she was used to that. "Is it on Earth?"

"URRS? Sorry earth Geography's not my strongest subject."

"Guess it's a country unique to your particular Earth."

She wondered if there were multiple versions of Faerie.

Leda winced. She'd come to Bordertown a few years after the war there had ended. She'd witnessed some bad skirmishes between gangs though, and that had been bad enough.

"Is that why you're here?"

That made Leda smile slightly. "This place does seem to be a good place for that."

"What kinda classes have you taken?"

"Oh I'm in the Revolutionary class too." Now that she thought about it she remembered seeing him there.

"It's definitely not something I could have learned anywhere else I'm sure."

"I like to think so. But they're not big on revolutions back in Faerie. Though I'm hoping to maybe change that." She still didn't think of Faerie as home.

At that, Leda couldn't help an ironic smile. "Actually I'm scheduled to be crowned queen of Faerie after graduation. And I happen to think that monarchy is a patently unjust system of government."

"Tell me about it. The only reason I agreed to take the job in the first place was they convinced me that if I didn't, someone really, really evil would. After a while I started to think I might be able to do a great deal of good if I could manage to change the system from within."

Leda had to believe she could do it. Otherwise she might abdicate and run away (it was the Bordertown way) as soon as she'd taken care of Corwyn. Which was something else she had to believe she could do.

"Thanks. I know it's not going to be easy. But, what the hell, Elves are long-lived. I suppose I've got time."
