Fifth Floor Common Room, Tuesday evening

Bruce could be out of his room without feeling the need to find a more private place with the first person he saw. It was a good feeling. A good enough feeling that Bruce was willing to actually risk messing with the television in the common room again. But first? Threats.

"If you act up on me, I will end you," Bruce whispered while kneeling in front of the set. "There's a window right there. I will throw you out of it. You will be destroyed. And then I'll buy a new TV for the floor. I can afford something that will make you look like you're a black and white set. Nobody will miss you. So behave, or you'll force me to prove that I'm serious."

Bruce settled into a seat on the sofa and turned on PBS. It worked just fine. "I'm glad we could come to this arrangement," Bruce said with a bit of a smirk.

Good job badgering the inanimate object into working, Bruce.

"Not really," Bruce said. "But it's the best we're going to get."

"Or," Maladicta suggested slowly. "We could stop believing there are imps in the television."

A beat.

"I checked that already."

"Did you actually believe that?" Bruce asked.

"It was more plausible than wires and lights," Maladicta pointed out.

"You really do come from a different world," Bruce stated. "Please tell me you've never opened up a computer."

"Of course not." A beat. "Is that like a coffee maker?"

"Nothing at all like one," Bruce said. "Although I'm sure you can get a coffee maker that plugs into a computer."

"Really?" NOW SHE NEEDED A COMPUTER, BRUCE. ARE YOU HAPPY?

"I can almost guarantee it," Bruce said. Actually, there was a small chance WayneTech even made one. He might have to look into that. "It has nothing to do with computing, but there's little doubt that somebody's made one."

"I think I like these devices now."

"They're useful. I'll make sure you're directed to one of the coffee makers if you ever get a computer," Bruce said.

"You're very kind, Bruce." And then they made out. "I see you survived last week," she said, glancing over toward Ariel.

"I'm not entirely sure how I survived, but I did," Bruce said, making sure to not glance at Ariel just then. "I guess I got lucky."

Yes, that was intentional.

Maladicta sniffed just the once. "Yes, I noticed."

"... You can smell that?" Bruce asked.

Great. And two of the girls he slept with last week were in the room. He didn't like the thought of somebody being able to figure that kind of thing out so easily.

"Other vampires are easy to spot."

"Huh. That's impressive," Bruce said. "I'd hate to see what you could spot if I didn't take cleanliness seriously."

There was a pause before Maladicta said, "Let's not find out, shall we?"

"Agreed," Bruce said. Although he was now curious how strong her sense of smell was and what he could do to confuse it if he needed to. "What about you? You seem fairly free of angst after last week. But I hear that's big with vampire romances these days."

Yes, Bruce, taunt the vampire by telling her about horrible vampire fiction.

SHE DIDN'T SPARKLE, DAMN IT.

"I wanted to eat everyone," Maladicta replied kindly. "Your roommate and Alexander managed to keep enough coffee around to prevent this."

"Faramir's quick on the uptake," Bruce said. "I'm not surprised that he managed to survive."

"If this happens again, I'll be prepared."

"Going to keep a hefty emergency coffee stash?" Bruce checked.

"And more storage on the go."

That was far more important.

"Talk to Alexander about making a utility belt. He's handy with leather," Bruce said.
