The sixth floor had been transformed into a proper Winter Wonderland, complete with twinkling lights adorning the walls, and... snow?

Yes, snow. Inside. Don’t ask how it got here. Or why it wasn’t melting despite the fact that the room itself was a comfortable temperature. If someone did ask, the only answer they’d get was a mysterious smile from Karla and a slight waggle of her fingers. Whatever conclusion they wanted to draw from that was fine.

But it wouldn’t be a party without the food, of course, which is why there were several tables with all sorts of (vegetarian-friendly) snacks and drinks, and, yes, a cake. Made by Sookie and not either of the two people organizing this party. ~~Which meant it was safe for human consumption~~. Speakers hidden behind fake trees were playing soft New Agey music, with a few instrumental holiday carols thrown in. Even some of the tinsel from yesterday had been saved and used to decorate.

Come in, relax, and help the birthday girl celebrate her first party in style.

But I generally get a stern lecture for it when I'm found out.// He didn't even turn to lead in with his shoulder today as they hugged. Birthday hugs totally meant that he'd pay extra close attention and try not to worry too much about silly things like lighting people on fire.

As if she'd let him if she had anything to say about it. She wanted a full on Jono hug. "I know when yours is," she said. "July." She paid attention to the radio.

Of course, he'd be good and graduated by then. There was no saying that he would even be on the island, come his own birthday. But the principle of the matter still stood.

Jono better not dare bring up that fact and spoil her birthday.

"You would not wish to be surprised in such a way?" Raven said, not above using her gifts to see if he really didn't want it or was just saying he didn't. "I find it wonderful -- this is the first time my birthday has been celebrated in such a way."

//Just makes me feel old,// Jono decided, lifting his nose toward the ceiling a little.

Because on his next birthday, he'd be turning 20. And that was practically ancient, thank you very much.

//And I don't handle surprises all that well. But something small... I wouldn't mind that, I suppose.//

"Of course," Raven murmured. Even good surprises could be too startling. "But you will certainly have me fussing over you."

Such a hardship.

Really. How would he ever survive?

//I can live with that.// Jonothon winked, and then pictured a kiss in her direction. On the cheek, keeping it relatively chaste for the time being, but that was mostly because he knew he'd get carried away if he started to picture anything but.

"This is my best birthday ever," Raven said, almost vibrating with excitement, especially after the kiss, chaste though it was. She gave him one of her own, quick but tender on the lips she made him feel. "And I am so glad you are here to share it with me."

//I only hope that they only get better from here,// Jonothon replied, that kind of dopey look crossing his features at the kiss.

Nope. Still not used to suddenly feeling lips, over here.

"I think this one will always be special to me," Raven said, looking around the room again with delight. "I am not certain how it can be better than this."

//Well,// Jono mused, //you've got little basis for comparison.//

Yes. That would do it every time, right?

//Though, it does look like I've got my work cut out for me next year, now that I know when yer birthday is.//

"The 13th of December is what my mother told me my birth date was in Earth time," Raven said. "You have almost a year to prepare." She was only teasing, since she didn't really expect much. She'd be happy with simply not having turned evil and enslaved her friends a year from now.

Oh, Raven knew that she was teasing. And Jono knew that she was teasing. But that didn't mean that he wasn't making the mental note and then plotting.

Plotting so very much, oh yes.
