Sov wasn't very good at cooking. They also didn't take much of an interest in it usually. But in an attempt to cure that feeling of homesickness that sometimes showed up they were attempting to cook a winter vegetable soup. Note the use of attempting. Sov hadn't actually cooked this themselves before or paid much attention to how it was being prepared when they had been assigned to kitchen duty. They remembered chopping vegetables though, so now they had a pot ful of chopped vegetables, some water and very little else. The vegetables were rather overcooked, but the taste left a lot to be desired. Sov frowned, putting the spoon down after tasting. Some spices perhaps?

Before heading to Reserves, Alexander thought he noticed the smell of cooking in the common room and, as usual, he was tempted to investigate.

"Soup?" he guessed, putting it together rather easily when he came inside.

"Yes, soup." Sov looked up. "It doesn't taste much, but you're welcome to help yourself.

"I'd be a fool to pass up free soup, even if it doesn't taste much," Alexander said with a faint smile. Really, soup that didn't taste much was more what he was used to, anyway. "Thank you. Do you make soup often?"

"This is the first time!" Sov grinned. "I've helped at home, cutting vegetables and things like that. Do you know how to cook?"

"I do," Alexander said, chuckling at the grin. "I've been cooking for as long as I can remember, but, I promise, I'll keep in mind that it's your first time and won't judge too harshly. It certainly doesn't smell all too bad, so that's a good start."

"Oh, thank you for that," they said with a laugh. "I'm Sov, by the way."

"Alexander," he offered back in response, nodding his head as he went for a bowl. "It's nice to meet you, Sov, and to partake in your culinary feats. Are you one of the newer students, or are my social skills even more terrible than I thought?"

"I'm new, so don't blame any lack of any kind of skills," Sov replied. "And that means I don't have to ask if you are." They grinned. "But I'm quite sure you've never heard of the planet I'm from."

See, they were learning.

"That's fair enough!" Alexander had to laugh a little at that. "I'm quite sure you've never head of my kingdom, either. What's the name of your planet?"

"Gethen," Sov said. "And I'm from the kingdom of Karhide. And what's the name of your kingdom? I've probably never heard of it, no, but at least I'll know it exists somewhere."

"Daventry," Alexander offered, "though I grew up in a kingdom called Llewdor. And, you're right, I've never heard of Gethen or Karhide before. What are they like?"

Alex caught wind of something in the common room, so she decided to investigate. "Sov, hey!"

Her fake!sibling, who she'd been bad at checking up on, was the one behind the smells. Awesome. "What have you go there?"

"Hi, Alex!" Sove greeted her cheerfully. "Want some soup?"

"Sure, I'd love some," she replied. "What kind is it?"
