Sov didn't have classes until tomorrow, and was actually looking forward to being busy again. But as this was the last day of no classes they figured they should take the time to be extra lazy and watch some TV.

They still preferred listening to the radio most of the time, since it was easily combined with doing something else, but as being lazy didn't include doing anything other than TV and eating popcorn (yes, popcorn were rather addictive), this was a good day for it.

Of course, Sov ended flipping through the channels as usual. There were so many! Eventually they found a documentary of some kind informing them that some people claimed that the world would end this year. What? Sove watched, wide-eyed!

[Open common room, of course. Also, I haven't posted a common room post for a very long time. Vacation + no longer sick is a good thing.]

It was late morning, nearing noon, and Ender had finished his morning exercises a while ago. He'd sat down to work in his room afterwards, but this sense of-- moroseness he had been trying to avoid wouldn't leave him alone, making him restless and a little irritable. Jane's commentary about that hadn't really helped either.

Which was why right now he was curled up on the couch in the common room, with Animal Planet playing some documentary about Brazilian tree-frogs in the background. He'd taken the datapad Ben had given him for his birthday with him, and he was poking idly through stats for alien races he'd never heard of before.

He was still a little restless, but at least he was less irritable. The calm, he could fake.

So as it turned out, Dolf had not, in fact, spotted the gremlin in the storage room at Turtle & Canary. What had happened was that the gremlin had spotted Dolf and embedded its tiny teeth neatly into Dolf's ankle about two seconds before he finished closing up the shop.

The Swede had not cared about the wound on his ankles. Bah! Ankles. He had cooking to do!

And so lo and behold, the Swede - with a charming beard made of cotton taped to his face - was in the first common room kitchen he could find. "HUNGRY?!" he shouted at his audience (which at the moment consisted mostly of chairs) "MAKE MEATBALLS!"

He yanked open the fridge with way too much violence, and began throwing food haphazardly at the counter. While shouting in... not Swenglish, exactly. Dunglish. Whatever. He didn't care. He was SWEDISH. "MELK!" He practically hurled the pack of milk against the back wall, then threw a bowl after it.

Fandom better be prepared for dinner tonight.

[[ so dolf now thinks he's Regular Ordinary Swedish Meal Time guy. open common room is open. ]]

Most mornings, Bod's breakfast consisted of cereal or some toast. This morning, he'd splurged a bit and gone into town for a dozen donuts. He didn't know why he had a particular craving for sugar of the donut variety this morning but he had the extra money and he had the time so there was nothing stopping him.

Of course, he wasn't going to eat them all in one sitting. He'd done that before and ended up with an awful stomachache and a few learned lessons. Never again. He'd eat just a few and he'd do so while lounging lazily on one of the couches, watching some early morning news program. It wasn't that exciting but he hadn't bothered to find the remote so laziness it was.

Sov wasn't very good at cooking. They also didn't take much of an interest in it usually. But in an attempt to cure that feeling of homesickness that sometimes showed up they were attempting to cook a winter vegetable soup. Note the use of attempting. Sov hadn't actually cooked this themselves before or paid much attention to how it was being prepared when they had been assigned to kitchen duty. They remembered chopping vegetables though, so now they had a pot ful of chopped vegetables, some water and very little else. The vegetables were rather overcooked, but the taste left a lot to be desired. Sov frowned, putting the spoon down after tasting. Some spices perhaps?

The radio they were building needed to get finished. Or perhaps not finished, rather approaching a little further towards a finished state. Sov enjoyed building it with Tony as much as they suspected they would like it finished. It was a project aimed at learning and understanding, after all.

This time they had brought the broken radio that Rikku had given them. Yes, it was still broken. It had been taken apart quite thoroughly though, also in the name of learning and understanding, and the pieces were now spread out on the table in the common room. Sov doubted that they would be able to put it back together.

[Sov and Tony are going to build stuff again, but it's a very open common room, of course]

It hadn't been a good night, spending kemmer alone, and Sov still felt shaky and shivering. But it was over, and they longed for some fresh air. The roof seemed like a good place. They had brought a few oranges, an exotic fruit unknown on Gethen, that was quite tasty, even if peeling it meant your hands got covered in orange juice. Drawing a deep breath, they looked out over the edge of the roof.

[open roof, of course]

Sov brought a radio and a soldering iron into the common room. The radio wasn't strictly necessary, but it was Sov's most priced possession and they wanted to show it to Tony, if nothing else as an example of the type of technology they were used to. They placed the things on the table and sat down, waiting for their friend to show up. They might have been a little early. Tony's promise to show them how to build a radio was important, after all.

[Sov and Tony are going to be nerdy, but it's a very open common room.]
