Most mornings, Bod's breakfast consisted of cereal or some toast. This morning, he'd splurged a bit and gone into town for a dozen donuts. He didn't know why he had a particular craving for sugar of the donut variety this morning but he had the extra money and he had the time so there was nothing stopping him.

Of course, he wasn't going to eat them all in one sitting. He'd done that before and ended up with an awful stomachache and a few learned lessons. Never again. He'd eat just a few and he'd do so while lounging lazily on one of the couches, watching some early morning news program. It wasn't that exciting but he hadn't bothered to find the remote so laziness it was.

"I was raised by ghosts," he said carefully. "Where I'm from, they're not just stories, they're real."

Sov blinked. That was strange and unexpected, but this was a different planet where people came from many strange places. They nodded. "Kind ones, then." They thought for a moment. "But... they had no bodies?"

"No, they had bodies," Bod corrected, nodding. "They just weren't able to be seen by humans. I was able to touch, hug, and feel them. They just had to give me the privilege. Once they did, they were just like regular people to me."

It was strange, yes, but given what had happened to Bod's family, it was definitely a good thing. "What were they like?" Sov asked, genuinely curious.

"It mostly depended on the ghost but they were kind, intelligent people," Bod shared quietly. "Their stories were quite amazing because some of them were thousands of years old and could tell me about history from back then that I'd only read about."

"Were they really wise, then? If they had lived that long?" Sov wouldn't mind hearing those kinds of stories.

"Some of them, yes," he said and laughed. "There were several that were warriors from the past, several were scholars and poets and leaders in their time. I don't know if their knowledge would be readily accepted today but they were very smart and very worldly."

"Was it strange to get used to being around... non-ghosts?" Because ghosts had been human, it might be rude calling them non-human, or so Sov imagined. In any way they didn't want to insult Bod's family.

"It definitely took some adjustment, yes," Bod said, nodding. "I'd gone to public school once before this so I had an idea of what to expect but this is my first lengthy stay anywhere since the graveyard."

"...You lived in a greavyard?" Yes, Sov, that's where the dead are.

"This is the first time I'm away from my family. It's quite... different here."
