2nd Floor Common Room - Saturday Evening

Bobby was making cookies. Well, Bobby was trying to make cookies. He'd never actually done it before. Mom didn't really approve of refined sugar or butter, and no one could say that cookies without sugar or butter were any good.

So Bobby had found a really handy recipe right on the back of a bag of chocolate chips, and baking was just like chemistry, right? You just followed directions and then poof, the experiment succeeded.

He was diligently following directions then as he tried to "beat" cold butter and sugar and eggs until it somehow all became creamy. His arm was beginning to hurt though, and nothing in the bowl looked even close to "creamy."

[Open common room of course!]

"Should I be standing next to the fire alarm in case you set the common room on fire?" Alex asked, wandering into the room and laughing. "Or maybe you've warned the local fire department already and they're on standby?"

"Have you ever baked cookies before?" Alex asked, coming over to see what Bobby had managed to do yet. "I'm pretty confident in your ability to follow instructions but...what if you slip up and add lighter fluid instead of flour?"

"Why didn't you get just the ready made dough that you just have to squeeze out of the tube and drop on the plate?" Alex wondered.

"Cookies are cookies," Alex said, raising an eyebrow. "Would it really make a difference to anyone but you? At least those you wouldn't be in the situation of possibly fucking up, right?"

"Okay, so what's wrong with these cookies?" Alex asked, glancing down at he bowl. "Fill disclosure, I am not a fucking baker but maybe I can help."

"Isn't there supposed to be a liquid or something to soften it up?" Alex wondered, taking a guess. "Like milk or water or something? Butter and sugar together is never gonna get creamy on its own."

"You could always put in the microwave?" Alex suggested, proving he wasn't a baker. "Wouldn't that melt it down and make it creamy? Heat and stuff, right? I don't think it'd hurt."

"The only other way I know of for something to get smooth and creamy is to add some water or milk," Alex suggested, shrugging. "Or we could add beer!"

"It's not illegal!" Alex protested, shaking his head. "If it was illegal, it wouldn't be readily available in grocery stores everywhere, Gnome."

"That's only if you get caught," Alex pointed out slyly. "If you don't get caught, there's no crime!"

"Beer would definitely make these cookies better," Alex said, shrugging. "If you want people to ignore the gritty taste of something? Add alcohol. No one will give a shit about what the cookies really taste like."

"You know where to score some pot?" Alex asked, curious and amused all at the same time. "Bobby, I didn't realize this side of you existed!"

"...seriously?" Alex asked, a little taken aback by that.
