2nd Floor Common Room - Saturday Evening

Bobby was making cookies. Well, Bobby was trying to make cookies. He'd never actually done it before. Mom didn't really approve of refined sugar or butter, and no one could say that cookies without sugar or butter were any good.

So Bobby had found a really handy recipe right on the back of a bag of chocolate chips, and baking was just like chemistry, right? You just followed directions and then poof, the experiment succeeded.

He was diligently following directions then as he tried to "beat" cold butter and sugar and eggs until it somehow all became creamy. His arm was beginning to hurt though, and nothing in the bowl looked even close to "creamy."

[Open common room of course!]

"Exactly what are you trying to kill?" Jake asked, because he was hearing a lot of noise but not so much with the deliciously smelling results.

"So why are you making enough noise to sound like you're killing something?" Jake asked with a grin. It wasn't his fault he had sensitive hearing.

Jake leaned forward a little to get a better look and shook his head. "Nope."

He was so helpful. "Maybe you're not beating hard enough."

"See, that's why all bakers are body builders in their spare time," he deadpanned.

"No, but it explains why they can hit so hard," Jake grinned at him.

"Should I be standing next to the fire alarm in case you set the common room on fire?" Alex asked, wandering into the room and laughing. "Or maybe you've warned the local fire department already and they're on standby?"

"Have you ever baked cookies before?" Alex asked, coming over to see what Bobby had managed to do yet. "I'm pretty confident in your ability to follow instructions but...what if you slip up and add lighter fluid instead of flour?"

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Why didn't you get just the ready made dough that you just have to squeeze out of the tube and drop on the plate?" Alex wondered.

"Cookies are cookies," Alex said, raising an eyebrow. "Would it really make a difference to anyone but you? At least those you wouldn't be in the situation of possibly fucking up, right?"

It wasn't Rilla's floor, but she couldn't help popping her head in when she saw a boy trying to cook.

"What are you making?"

He was so lucky Rilla had taken a few courses at this point and wouldn't reply with "add milk."

"Did you add butter?" she asked, trying to peer into his bowl.

"It's supposed to be soft," Rilla said usefully. "Did you leave it out at all before you began?"

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Rilla nodded. "Maybe you can fix it by putting it into the microwave?"

With eggs. Probably not a good idea.
