2nd Floor Common Room - Saturday Evening

Bobby was making cookies. Well, Bobby was trying to make cookies. He'd never actually done it before. Mom didn't really approve of refined sugar or butter, and no one could say that cookies without sugar or butter were any good.

So Bobby had found a really handy recipe right on the back of a bag of chocolate chips, and baking was just like chemistry, right? You just followed directions and then poof, the experiment succeeded.

He was diligently following directions then as he tried to "beat" cold butter and sugar and eggs until it somehow all became creamy. His arm was beginning to hurt though, and nothing in the bowl looked even close to "creamy."

[Open common room of course!]

"And I'm certain that would have come up at a quilting session," Rilla said with a giggle. "There are enough cows around Glen St. Mary's for someone to have heard tell of an incident."

"And they have certainly aired out many more boring stories at a quilting bee," Rilla said.

Walter and Faith racing pigs through town being a perennial favourite...

Oh, the scandals of generations are brought up and hashed over," Rilla said with a little giggle. "The only better place for hearing gossip is at a funeral."

"Well, the ceremony itself generally is," Rilla admitted, "unless the widow faints or the sister in law has a lot to say. The luncheon afterward is not as...refined."

"I've been to many," Rilla said. "My father is the village doctor. Though no one blames him if someone dies," she tacked on hastily.

"Well, no one has ever accused many of them of being fair," Rilla declared with a laugh.

"Well, they certainly wouldn't lie," Rilla agreed.
