Fifth Floor Common Room, Tuesday Evening

Jason and Momoko had agreed to take turns with their droid baby, and since he didn't have any classes on Tuesdays, the baby had gone into Jason's care today. Things hadn't been so bad for most of the day, and Jason had made the mistake of thinking that this week would be fairly easy. That, of course, had been when the baby started crying and just. wouldn't. stop. He'd finally managed to get it to stop making noise by holding and cradling it, but every time he put the baby down, it started to wail again.

So, he was sitting on the couch now with a droid baby cradled between his cast and his chest, and a freshly delivered pizza sitting next to him. Making dinner in this state had seemed like a recipe for disaster.

Ariel had given her own droid baby off to her father for the afternoon and evening, since she didn't feel a police station was a good place to bring a kid. However, on her way back to her room afterward, it was hard not to overhear the siren call welling up a few times before it was quieted.

"So, how's it going, Dad?" she offered by way of greeting when she poked her head in, but then got immediately distracted by something even better. "Ooh, pizza."

It was probably a good thing that Jason had pizza in his mouth when Ariel came in, because it kept him from immediately starting to complain. "If the goal is to get us to never have sex, I think it might be working," he said, pushing the box towards her. "You can have some pizza if you want, I'm not going to eat it all by myself."

"Yay!" Ariel happily bounced over to the couch to take a seat and help herself to a slight. "Thank you! So, who's your partner? Is it a boy or a girl? What did you name it? I took mine to work with me today, and so now Blackager is taking care of him for a little bit. It's perfect! He's so quiet, so Adam'll nap really easily with him."

"Uh, my partner's Momoko," Jason said, shifting the baby carefully so his arm wouldn't fall asleep. "The baby's a boy, and we named him Nikko. Or, really, Momoko named him and I agreed. She's the one who's good at this stuff, not me."

"Blackagar and me worked together to name Adam," Ariel said with a nod, taking a bite of pizza, chewing, and swallowing before continuing. "His name is actually longer, but I can't remember it all. It's very traditional, though, Blackagar said. Well, not said, but you know what I mean."

"Hi!" Bobby said, waving to Ariel. "How are you? Did you have your own pizza or did Jason give you some?"

And did that mean that Bobby could get a piece.

"It's Jason's," Ariel answered with a small smile, waving back. "He's being nice and sharing, so I'm sure you could have a piece, too. Someone's got to help him finish it, right?"

"I think Jason could probably eat all the pizza on his own," Bobby pointed out. "I know Jack could. I can only eat a small one though."

"I could probably eat all the pizza myself!" Ariel admitted with a laugh. "Even if there aren't any Cheetos on it. If you haven't tried Cheetos pizza yet, it comes highly recommended."

After checking Jason's room, Nico wandered down the hall, lucking out that he found Jason and food in the same place. (Yes, he was excited enough about food that it rated up there with seeing Jason.)

Moving close enough to lean against the arm of the sofa, Nico eyed the droid. "I didn't realize you played with dolls." Even ones that looked like a child of Hephaestus had created them.

Jason looked a little embarrassed as he looked up at Nico, and cradled the baby a little closer. "It's not a doll. I mean, it is, kind of, but it's really an assignment for Sex Ed." And here he thought he'd been done with this since he wasn't in Ethics again.

Nico probably shouldn't have looked so amused by that. "I guess after that uh, weekend of many children, there's no arguing with the professors that certain lifestyles don't have to worry about that particular side effect of sex." Nico was once again happy with his course selection.

He was going to have to work hard to keep things going well for him this summer.

"Yeah, I guess you're right," Jason said, sighing. His course selection skills clearly needed some work. "Do you want some pizza? I can't put the kid down, so I ordered out."

"Why can't you put it down? Is it broken?" Nico didn't really understand how these things worked. His questions didn't stop him from sitting on the side of Jason away from the doll and grabbing a piece of pizza.

"Nico, hi!" Bobby said with a grin. "Congratulations!"

No, Nico didn't know why he was being congratulated, but he half-smiled at Bobby and waved his pizza at him anyway. "Hey. Congratulating me on scoring free food? I should do the same."

"No! On being a dad!" Bobby said, snickering at Nico pretending not to know. "Jason told me. Is it weird being a parent when you're so young?"

This was all your fault, Jason.

"Jason, hi!" Bobby said as he followed his nose into the Common Room. Pizza. It was teenage boy bait. "Did you have a baby?"

"Yeah, just a week ago. I guess I did pretty well at hiding the weight gain, huh?" Jason said. Sorry Bobby, he couldn't help it.

His eyes widened. Look, it was Fandom. "Really?" he asked. "Is it a boy or a girl? Um, were you expecting to have a baby?"

"No, I wasn't expecting it at all," Jason said. That wasn't a lie, really. He thought he'd been done with this when he finished Ethics class. "It's a boy, his name is Nikko."

Momoko wasn't really over Reno's mention that the world was running out of chocolate, and when she found herself out of chocolate she decided to raid the common room. Seeing Jason and Nikko distracted her.

"Ah! Jason! Nikko! Hi!" She came over to look at the baby's face. "Awww! He looks so peaceful! See? You're totally good at being a dad!"

Jason couldn't stop himself from laughing a little as he looked at Momoko. "If being able to hold a baby for far longer than necessary makes someone a good dad, then you might be right," he said. "Nikko was...kind of a little fussy earlier." Ah, understatements.

"Making him not-fussy and so relaxed is totally being a good dad! If you wanted to be a bad dad, you could have just left him to cry in your room." She sat down so that she could pat Nikko's head, and hoped she didn't disturb him. Either of the him's. "Although I'd totally have gotten mad at you for doing it, when I found out. Was he crying the whole time you had him? How did he sleep?"

"He slept a lot during the day. But then he didn't want to be put down, literally," Jason explained, shifting the baby a little in his arms. "I'm hoping it was just a temporary thing and he'll be okay now. I definitely wouldn't have left him in my room, even if that wouldn't have made you mad."
