Fifth Floor Common Room, Tuesday Evening

Jason and Momoko had agreed to take turns with their droid baby, and since he didn't have any classes on Tuesdays, the baby had gone into Jason's care today. Things hadn't been so bad for most of the day, and Jason had made the mistake of thinking that this week would be fairly easy. That, of course, had been when the baby started crying and just. wouldn't. stop. He'd finally managed to get it to stop making noise by holding and cradling it, but every time he put the baby down, it started to wail again.

So, he was sitting on the couch now with a droid baby cradled between his cast and his chest, and a freshly delivered pizza sitting next to him. Making dinner in this state had seemed like a recipe for disaster.

"And here I thought you didn't want to mess with my cast," Jason teased. "It's not a surprise, it's just...nice to hear."

"I don't wanna mess up your cast," Nico told him. "Like too much jostling will hurt you or something." And writing required jostling...sort of.

"I don't think you can mess up my cast. It's pretty solid," Jason said. "I mean, that's the point, to keep everything in place. Do you want to write something on it?"

Nico eyed the cast and tried to ignore the droid there. "Like what? 'Nico wants you all to himself'? Seems a little long."

Jason carefully shifted the droid baby to his other arm, looking grateful when it didn't start crying. "You could put it in Greek. Or, anything in Greek really." Not that he had a thing about Nico and foreign tongues or anything. "Then no one else would know what it says."

And Nico could guarantee spelling things correctly. "Yeah? Do I have to tell you what it says?" Nico thought Jason deserved a little teasing, even as he reached out to slide his hand down Jason's arm to where the cast started.

"Well, I'd like to know. But I guess you could tell me anything and I wouldn't really know," Jason said a little uneasily, even with Nico's hand on him.

"As if it would take you more than ten minutes to find it in one of those books you read or on the internet," Nico pointed out. Though he would probably tell Jason. Once he decided what he wanted to say. "Do you have a pen?" Bookish people carried such things, right?

"I think so," Jason said, checking his pockets. It was more out of preparedness than bookishness though, even if he could probably find a Greek translation to anything Nico wrote. He found a black pen in his back pocket, and offered it to Nico. "Will this work?"

"I think so," Nico repeated, taking the pen and turning so he could face Jason's arm and find a good spot to write on. "I promise I won't write anything bad."

"I wouldn't have given you the pen if I thought you were going to write anything bad," Jason said. "I trust you." It was strange to admit that, but it was true.

It felt good to know that Jason trusted him. Like Nico had done something right for once, which made him even more intent on getting his words down properly on the plaster.

Nico had to really focus to scratch the pen into the Ancient Greek shapes that formed the phrase he'd decided to write. Halfway through he started to doubt that Jason would appreciate what he'd written, but it was too late.

When he was finished, Nico capped the pen and released his hold on Jason's injured arm. "How's it look?" he asked, admiring his neat work.

Jason watched Nico intently, losing all his focus on his droid for the first time all night. When Nico was done, Jason twisted his arm a little to see the writing. "That's so awesome," he said, grinning. "What does it say?"

Oh right, he should share that. "Um, it says, 'Property of the Ghost King.'" No it didn't.

Jason blushed hard at that, and ducked his head. "See, knowing a different language is good," he managed to say.

And if Jason ever decided he wanted to learn that language, he'd find out that Nico had actually written what amounted to the reverse, in a way.

"Too bad it's not a useful one," Nico shrugged, thinking how much worse that blush would be if Jason knew the words there. "The only people here I'd bet on reading it are my cousins." Oh, that wouldn't be awkward at all.

"I won't let them," Jason promised. "It's for me, not them. And it might not be useful, but it's still hot."

If there wasn't a creepy doll and a common area to deal with, Nico would've kissed Jason for that. Instead, he reached up to smooth Jason's hair and rest his hand at the base of his neck with a little squeeze. "Yeah, well I don't control that part, but I'm glad you like it. Even if I maybe embellished what it says just a little."

"Oh really?" Jason asked, leaning into Nico's touch. "You're going to make me learn how to translate Greek, aren't you?"

"I do like the way you look all deep in thought with your books," Nico pointed out, his hand massaging Jason's neck a bit.

"You make me sound like a total nerd," Jason said, although he was still smiling like he wasn't that insulted. "I just like knowing stuff, that's all. I don't like being confused and in the dark."

He shouldn't have been insulted since, to Nico, it was a good thing that Jason was smart. "Yeah, I get that feeling, too. Even if I'm not a nerd."

"Hey, I'm not actually a nerd," Jason protested. "You just make me feel like one. I am way too hot to be a nerd."

Nico gave Jason a careful once-over. "Maybe. I mean, you're definitely hot. But I don't know how that plays into you being a nerd."

"Is that what my cast secretly says? That I'm a nerd, but you like me anyway?" Jason asked.
