Fire Drill, Outside the Dorms, Oh Dear Lord How Is This O'Clock Wednesday Night

Fandom lay peaceful in the night, recovering from its latest brush with invasion. It had reached such an hour that even the teal deer slept soundly in the woods, and the crickets had given up on chirping to go play Texas Hold-'Em in the caves in the cliffs just off the Preserve.

The rain started almost tentatively: a few drops of dew that wrestled loose from the grass and gently made their way upwards. But soon they multiplied, soon they went faster. Soon the dark skies were full of water raining upwards, coagulating into clouds far up above.

And then...

...and then the fire drill alarms went off in the dorms.

Sorry, kids.

[[ this will be your fire drill post for the evening! have at, oh students. ]]

"If they're tends with a tarp underneath," he pointed out, "because you bet your ass if you put something on the ground, the rain's going to come from above."

He stopped. "Or sideways."

"You're probably right. Because when it comes right down to it, the island likes nothing more then to screw with us." Dru had come to the conclusion that it had a very warped sense of humor. "I suppose we have to look on the bright side. It could be raining jello or something equally messy."

Don't give the island any ideas, Dru.

"Yeah, but then at least I'd have something to eat," Jake complained. Not that the whole wet girls in sleeping gear was something he was objecting to.

And considering the past few weeks, wake was utterly convinced the island had a personal grudge against him. "Now I'm getting hungry."

Because the drowned rat look in a wet hoodie and flannel pants was so attractive?

"Jello's not really filling though. Maybe you'd prefer a steak?" she smirked, eyebrow raised in amusement. She did owe him one after all.

Well, maybe those with a little less layers.

It took an instant before he figured out what she was referring to and then he laughed and shrugged a shoulder. "I thought you'd forgotten about that."

[identity profile] svetocha-blooms.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"I kind of did but then thinking about last weekend reminded me," Dru explained. "And since you mentioned being hungry. Perfect opening..."

"Hey, let it be known that I never turn down food," Jake grinned. "Too bad it's so late or I'd make you pay up now."

"Yeah, I think Outback closed a few hours ago. But name a time and I'll feed you. I figure it's the least I can do before graduation comes and I head out into the world." To go where, she had no idea yet.

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're a senior?" Somehow he'd managed to forget that and graduation was getting closer. "You're not staying on for summer then?"

[identity profile] svetocha-blooms.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am. I'm still trying to figure what to do," she admitted with a shrug. "I don't have anywhere to be, or anyone to be with. So sticking around might not be such a bad idea." And since Sergej hadn't tracked her down yet, it was probably safer in the long run. "We can have fun roughing it in the cabins again."

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh god, I somehow managed to repress those," he groaned. "I kind of remember mostly sleeping outside."

Which had been good for his nose and for his cabinmates considering his snoring volume;

[identity profile] svetocha-blooms.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Dru laughed. "I'll stick with the air conditioning, thank you very much. Sleeping outside is a little too back to nature for me. But I do promise to not ward the cabin against you when you do decide to come inside."

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's considerate. Thanks," he teased her. "I should be glad you never ended up warding the dorms, huh?"

[identity profile] svetocha-blooms.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"It had already been taken care of," Dru said more seriously. "I'm not sure how, or what magic it is. But it's there. Of course that hasn't stopped me from warding my own room just to be on the safe side." Her Gran had trained her well.

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Of course," he agreed with a nod, still grinning. "Not very effective magic, though, considering some of the students."

Shut up, Jake. You really couldn't talk about that now.

[identity profile] svetocha-blooms.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe? Maybe not. I'm thinking," Hoping that is, "that it's based on intentions? So if you're a vampire as long as you're not planning to eat people you're fine. But if you decide your roommate's a handy midnight snack, then it'll smite you? I have no clue honestly, but it makes as much sense as anything else I could think of."

Yes, she'd thought about this a lot.

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"So," he paused to digest that. "You're saying the wards read our minds?"

[identity profile] svetocha-blooms.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Dru shrugged. "Maybe? But then again, those creepy gremlin things got in right after we first came here so I could have it totally wrong. All I know is the wards I can put up work. When the vampire came looking for me when my dad died, they kept him out of the house. That's all that matters to me."
