Fandom lay peaceful in the night, recovering from its latest brush with invasion. It had reached such an hour that even the teal deer slept soundly in the woods, and the crickets had given up on chirping to go play Texas Hold-'Em in the caves in the cliffs just off the Preserve.

The rain started almost tentatively: a few drops of dew that wrestled loose from the grass and gently made their way upwards. But soon they multiplied, soon they went faster. Soon the dark skies were full of water raining upwards, coagulating into clouds far up above.

And then...

...and then the fire drill alarms went off in the dorms.

The fire alarm going off weren't anything new to Bod. He'd been here for previous fire drills and knew it meant stumbling out of bed and out of the dorms sleepily.

He was still rubbing his eyes when he got outside and was immediately assaulted by water hitting his legs and shorts. And moving around did nothing because there was just no avoiding the water.

So, Bod just stood there and let the water soak his legs and shorts and the bottom of his t-shirt. The water had woken him up though. Now, he'd just stand there and look unimpressed.

"This is complete and utter bullshit," Kate announced sulkily as she stalked her way over to Bod. "Stupid fucking weather."

Ender had only just been asleep when the alarms started ringing. Because of it, he was fairly bleary-eyed, dressed in his grey Property-of-the-International-Fleet t-shirt and a pair of shorts, and becoming more drenched by the second.

He needed to find something to stand on, clearly.

Dolf, unused to the trappings of fire drills, had gone into a panic about five seconds into waking up from the alarm.

As a result, he was now standing here in his underwear and a t-shirt. A giant wet splotch was already forming at the bottom of his t-shirt.

Hey, at least he was dragging a seriously disapproving pile of wet dog behind him. It scarcely mattered that Cally's sleep attire was a little less revealing when dry, once the fabric had been soaked with both rain and Nana-tossed mud.

"Do you think if we stood on a tarpaulin it would protect us, or would the rain just start pouring out of that?" she asked when she found him, and mostly rhetorically since... she didn't have a tarpaulin.

Being woken up by a blaring alarm sucked. Realizing what it was and stumbling blindly behind other students out into the night really didn't make the situation better.

Percy was grumbling and bitching to himself when he felt the first drops of water hit his legs. Blearily, he looked down, spotted rain coming from the ground and immediately used his powers to make himself dry. The rain could keep coming as hard as it wanted but Percy was going to stand there sleepy but dry.

That didn't make this situation suck any less, though.

Luke came up from behind Percy and wrapped his wet arms around the other boy. "Keep me dry."

"... Oh what the everloving fuck is this?"

Always so eloquent, was our Kate. But then she had just noticed the exact way it was raining, and she wasn't best pleased. She'd had the presence of mind to grab a hoodie before her swift exit from her room, but it didn't do much to shield her from the rain when everything else she was wearing was just a tanktop and some shorts.

So she was just going to be sulking, over here.

Nathan hadn't gone to sleep but maybe an hour ago. After all, it was his night at the bar, he'd had plenty to drink and was heading swiftly into a good hangover when the alarm blared and had him scrambling out of bed with a yelp. He'd managed to grab a hoodie and his cigarettes before heading outside, cursing Americans and fire alarms and anything else that popped into his mind for good measure.

It'd taken him a few seconds to realize that it was raining from the grass. By that time, he was already soaking wet and just over this entire thing. "This fucking island, man. Why don't you just drop a fucking anvil on me while you're at it, huh?"

Nathan pulled his up his hoodie and tried to light a cigarette without the water putting it out. It was harder than it sounded but he managed.

Even after her many months in Fandom, Makita still slept fully-dressed. Some habits weren't just hard to break, it was that she didn't want to break them at all.

The split second the alarm had sounded she was out of bed, reaching under the pillows for her sickle even as she grabbed for her coat and hat. Invasion? Proximity alarm?

...someone had yet to be educated on fire drills. Which is why she was now standing outside, having followed the crowd, looking very confused and annoyed.

When the alarm woke Ariel up, she was startled for a moment and then she realized that something exciting was happening, and so she found herself pretty excited herself. Rushing outside with everyone else, down the stairs and out into the...

..rain? Watching the water come up instead of down made her immediately giggle. Pity it wasn't raining up harder; that would make it like the spouts of water on the seafloor, and those were always fun to get caught up in. She was trying not to be so amused, especially since she'd have to probably get a new nightgown, but like she'd ever really complain about new clothes...

"Gyahhhh. Ahhh!" Claudia's brain wasn't awake enough to make more than vague unhappy noises when she noticed the rain attacking her from below. She tried hopping from foot to foot instinctively for a bit, then finally had to resign herself to the fact that she was destined to get her slippers absolutely drenched.

Fire drills weren't a completely alien concept. Chuck had suffered through them before.

The rain... kind of was. He'd been asleep, and not thought to layer up, so he was left standing in his t-shirt and boxers with a creeping cold wet sensation moving up his body. Not nice.

"Cute shorts," said Ariel, grinning a little at Chuck and thinking there should be more things like this that let her get an eyefull of what everyone slept in. Her own long pink nightgown was starting to cling, but she didn't seem in the least bit bothered by it. It was hard to have your mood dampened due to rain when you were really used to a perpetual state of wetness, really.

Jake was scowling as he made it outside in nothing but boxers, his ears rather unhappy at the noise and he moved further away from the dorms. The lawn was wet and slippery under his feet, but it wasn't like he was going to get picky now.

It took him a moment to actually realise exactly what was wrong with the rain and why his legs were wetter than his head. "Well, that's new."

At least he was probably warmer than most people.

Tahiri was out of bed and headed downstairs without stopping to question the alarm, though she did reach out carefully in the Force to make sure it was just an alarm and nothing more serious than that as she hurried down the stairs.

And no, it wasn't more serious than that, but the rain was . . .

Someone at least hadn't been woken from her beauty sleep, even if it might look like she had, wearing only a t-shirt a couple of sizes too big. Effy wasn't really sleeping much, so the water that appeared to be ignoring the laws of gravity was really the least of her worries right now.

She found herself a place on the grass to sit by the nearest vertical surface and leaned back closing her eyes. Just because she wasn't sleeping, didn't mean she couldn't pretend.

Alexander wasn't entirely sure what that sound was, but he'd figured it out easily enough.

The upside down rain, on the other hand, was a little more difficult to solve, though he was almost in a way glad for it. He hadn't thought to grab some sort of coat or overshirt, so in a regular rain, he'd be concerned about the undershirt he wore being soaked through. But for now he could only comment at his wet bare feet, "Egads. How peculiar."

Alex didn't like being woken up from a dead sleep in the first place. And he really hated it when he got himself outside only to be met with water soaking his shorts, legs and t-shirt. And he was doing all this without cigarettes.

Pacing around wasn't doing him any good but he wasn't just going to stand there and let the water soak him. This island was a freakshow.

Luke was wet and miserable. He had been tempted to just sleep through the alarm since if the place really was on fire he could leave quickly but he got up for some crazy ass reason. Now he was standing there, getting ran up his sleeping pants. Being miserable.

Which meant she wasn't just the normal kind of cranky and craving coffee that went with being awoken from a dead sleep. She was also extra wet.

She found a bit of rock to sit on and scowled at the proceedings.

It was chilly and wet and there was water attacking her. And, also, this was not a humane time to be awake or outside. Prom was almost here; a girl needed her beauty rest.

Quinn was not a happy camper as she shivered in the storm.

"Noise cancellation device," Claudia said without preamble. "On the door. Totally working on it tomorrow."

Never mind that if this were an actual emergency, they'd sleep through the alarm and be screwed. Claudia hadn't followed the idea to that conclusion, just yet.

Stephanie had just picked the best night ever to decide to stay in instead of hitting the rooftops, hadn't she? (In her defense, upside-down rain was, she felt, a good enough reason to take a night off since please, Fandom wasn't awash in crime and seemed to have enough masks, or mask-like types, to look after it if she did.)

So she was one of the stragglers out of the building; what of it? It wasn't as if she'd had to take a moment to remind herself to use the stairs, and then stop to make a quick sweep of the halls out of well-intentioned habit or anything like that. Really. Come on, she lived on the fifth floor. Of course it took a little longer.

"Oh, come on, Fandom -- really?" she demanded, looking up at the clouds that seemed to be sucking in upside-down rain like sponges.

Jeremy had been fast asleep when the alarm had gone off. It had taken him a good long while to wake up and figure out what it meant, and an even longer while to make it all the way down and out of the dorms in his space-print pajama bottoms.

By now, he'd progressed to staring at the rain and trying to comprehend what exactly he was seeing. He wasn't having much success with that.

She did, however, have whining. After a few seconds of whining, she managed "... this is no fair."

Harper managed to hear the sound of rain underneath the shrillness of the alarm. She had a the good sense to grab an umbrella on her way out the door. However, the umbrella wasn't much help protecting her from rain that was shooting upwards instead of falling from the sky.

"ACK! It's so cold," she squealed. Her flannel pajamas weren't offering much warmth when they were all wet.

The alarms going off had been confusing, and Sov had hurried down the stairs wearing only pyjamas, which was now soaking wet. They muttered some bad Rerian curses.

Jason had only been half awake when he stumbled outside, so it took a moment for him to realize that his legs weren't cold because of the temperature. He'd obviously chosen the wrong night to wear pajama pants to bed, and he wondered if he'd get in trouble for taking them off and just standing in his underwear. He might actually be less cold that way.

Ben had managed to pull on boots and his Jedi robe, but not pants.

Water shooting up his boxer shorts was not a pleasant experience, as his scowl attested.
