3rd Floor Common Room | Wednesday Evening

After an oh so trying day of class (not really) Luke felt a night sitting in front of the TV and raiding the common room pantry was in order. After a long and tedious search (not really) he came up with a bag of cookies and an episode of Man vs. Food on TV. The episode was set in Baltimore and it had Luke tempted to use the portal at the end of the Causeway and try stuffing his face with some of this stuff.

For now he'd just stick with the cookies though.

[Open, of course]

After struggling with a bookshelf that seemed to find sheer joy in dumping the entire works of Shakespeare on Alexander's head several times, he was ready to just sort of veg out and not do anything for a while. He intended to go just to his room, but a little rumble in his stomach made him divert his course a little.

He nodded a greeting to those already there before heading to the cabinet and pulling out a box for macaroni and cheese.

"Thank goodness for modern conveniences," he commented; it was blissful to be able to make a meal without even much work...

FOOD. Topher was a big fan of food. Which was why he'd spent the afternoon and evening looting the various common rooms in search of snacks.

"Cookies," he said, pointing as he flopped down on the couch.

That was a request, Luke, yes.

"And to think this is significantly less effort than what I usual put in," Alexander commented with a chuckle. "Would you like some? It would be easy enough to double the batch, I should think."

But... but... but he wanted!

"Could I, uh." He cleared his throat. "Could I get some?"

Wow! Manners! That was new.

"Well, I will make a little extra," Alexander decided, "should you change your mind. And if you don't, well, then, I've yet to meet anyone here really opposed to leftovers."

And so Alexander went to get a pot as he asked, "What's the nature of the program so that it might cause one to lose his appetite?"

Topher's response to that was to shovel a cookie into his mouth. Those manners? They did not apply to eating.

"'s good," he informed Luke, and passed the bag back.

Nope, no "thank you."

"I'm Topher."

"I'm making some macaroni and cheese, as well," offered Alexander from where he was implementing far more than what a box of it called for in the kitchette, "if you're interested."

Um, only always.

"Bring it on," Topher announced, kicking back. "Unless the viking-roleplay-World-of-Warcraft dudes outside made it, in which case I'm gona have to pass."

Topher nodded. "Fifth day or something," he replied.

From which he proceeded to move on to an awkward silence. An expert conversationalist, he was not.

Alexander wasn't sure he understood a good portion of that, but he did get that viking was the important part and he chuckled.

"Not at all. It's made by me. I'm taking a little artistic license with it, too; making it a bit more cheesy, a bit more flavor. These boxed meals are quite convenient, but they lack a little in taste, I feel."

That was around the time that Topher decided it would be helpful to, you know, turn around and determine that his food was being made by a non-viking human being. Sure enough, Alexander was free of mead and viking helmets.

"Cool," he decided. "Cheesy is good."

At least at the moment he was.

"Are you one of the new students, then?" asked Alexander as he worked away at feeding the masses.

Uh. What? Yeah, his Fandom-appointed big sibling hadn't been much help in terms of explaining that. Her being green, and all.

"Uh," Topher said. "Where I come from it's LA."

Okay, this talking-from-across-the-room thing wasn't working. Topher got up and sat on the back of the couch for optimal conversation.

"Yup," he said. "Brand-spankin'-new. Fresh off the prep school circuit."

Which, judging by Alexander's accent, seemed like something they could have in common? Topher was a little bit racist.

"Yup." He shrugged. "Although that'd be awesome."

Alexander would feel incredibly proud of that bit of assumption; not too shabby for someone raised a slave!

"Well, welcome," he said. "I'm Alexander; I live down the hall in 316 with William Murdoch. Are you on this floor as well?"
