The Deck - Friday Lunchtime

Jack was a fan of summer, but today was plain hot and that he had issues with. But he was a guy to take advantage of a situation like this. He had deck chairs, an umbrella and a cooler full of ice and cans of soda for anyone who came by. Jack was happy with the view from here and didn't plan on going anywhere until the sun went down some and the temperatures cooled off.

"Exploring! Not on a death march!" Bobby protested. "There's a difference. Did you go into the city yet? I went to the library. It's actually the Library of Alexandria. No one is ever, ever going to believe this."

Bobby's eyes lit up. "Really? Do you want to come with and explore? There's so much cool stuff, I bet. I wish we could speak Greek. I want to talk to the astronomers."

Bobby frowned. "Do they have slavery in ancient Greece? I don't know why they'd sell me in to slavery. I'm very culturally sensitive!"

"I don't usually annoy people," he argued. "Some people find me charming!"

"I wasn't counting Mom!" Bobby protested. "People here too! Like..." he cast about for a name "...Caroline!"

He frowned because Jack was right.

"Well, adorable works too if you don't want to get sold into slavery in Alexandria."

Bobby, for once, was struck completely speechless in horror.

For the moment, at least.

"...I think eunuchs were slaves too," he pointed out in a tiny voice that trailed off. "So technically..."

It was a lot less fun in Hart too. At least for Bobby.

"Deal," he agreed, perfectly happy to agree to anything that didn't involve castration. Then he added, attempting to be both sly and innocent. "I'll remind you about the slavery thing when you flirt with one of the shopkeepers' daughters or something."

"I'm not stupid," Bobby protested, rolling his own eyes at Jack's suggestion that he'd even think of bringing their mom home something alive. "And the currency's easy! Just go to the bank in town, and they will convert any currency ever for another. It's pretty cool."

"No, I talk to people," he shot back. "and they tell me thing!"

Pay no attention to how his paychecks somehow got turned into piles of random currencies.

"The cooks at Luke's are teaching me how to cook," Bobby shared. "And Sam told me about his boyfriend in New York."
