Main Campfire [evening]

As Rilla was practically fifteen right now, she felt quite grown-up enough to attempt to light the campfire by herself and managed without setting anything other than the kindling ablaze. In a long-ish skirt and multiple layers, this was a trickier business than you might imagine.

She settled herself onto a comfortable log, stared starry-eyed into the campfire (it reminded her of good times with her family on the shore when they burned all of the debris that washed up over the winter) and began singing a Scottish air from home.

Her voice was surprisingly good for someone who wasn't prone to singing in public, but around a campfire, such a thing was expected along with ghost stories and toasted bread.

She'd provide the bread if someone else had ghost stories.

"Rilla Blythe," she replied. "It's very nice to meet you. We have a number of royals running around," she added, trying to sound blase about it and failing miserably.

"Really?" Jack asked looking amazed. "Royalty ships their princes and such to live in cabins? I'd think they'd have issues with that."

"People who aren't royalty also have problems with that," Rilla replied archly.

"Oh, what's not to enjoy?" Jack said with a grin. "Great outdoors. No privacy. Bugs. People judging your pajamas. More bugs."

"They're judging my pyjamas?"

Rilla had a finely honed sense of priorities.

"Well somebody judged my pajamas," Jack clarified. "In particular they were not meant for sitting at a cabin campfire and enjoying s'mores. See, I was under the impression that campfires didn't have a dress code. Big mistake."

"Well, this campfire doesn't have a dress code," Rilla assured him, "So you can wear whatever you'd like."

"Well, I'll stick to the clothes I have on," Jack said with a chuckle. "I'm a little too lazy at the moment to hike back to my cabin to get into my bathrobe."

"Which cabin are you in?" Rilla asked.

"Menudo," Jack said gesturing at the cabin. "Just don't ask me to sing any songs in Spanish but that just ain't happening."

"I was thinking of going to the music store in town and getting something from each of the cabins," Rilla admitted.

"Oh! So you're looking to torture yourself then?" Jack teased.

"What I've heard so far hasn't been bad!" Rilla declared stoutly. "The New Kids on a Block are very talented."
