Rock Band Party, Tuesday Evening, First Floor Rec Room

Karla and Warren had celebrated their return to their proper forms in the way that many teenagers would find appropriate: they'd headed back to the modern mainland, found a toy store, and bought a gaming system (or three). Along with the games they bought to go along with said system, they also picked up a few guitars, a keyboard, a drum set, and two microphones.

Once back in the rec room, the rest of the afternoon had been spent setting up the systems and buying every single song available for the game. Waiting for them to finish downloading actually took longer than the initial setting up, even taking in Karla's attempts to 'help'.

But now the system was set up, the songs were ready, and the instruments prepared.

Fandom High? Get ready to rock.

"If nothing else, it's better than trying to kill a night watching funny animals on YouTube," Quinn shrugged. "I sing. And I used to play piano. I may not suck at this."

"There are definitely worse ways to spend an evening," Warren agreed. "You sing, huh? Maybe you wouldn't mind giving me a few pointers? I've... never done this before."

Ever. Karaoke was its own special breed of 'not really a Worthington activity,' that he had managed to completely miss out on through his lifetime.

"I just pick easy songs and try to sound sexy," Quinn admitted. "Probably works better if you're a girl."

"Yeah, I guess it would." Warren laughed a little, though it was a slightly nervous sort of laugh. He still wasn't so great with 'confidence,' sometimes. "Easy is a good start, at least. Any favorites?"

"Honestly?" Quinn almost looked a little embarrassed. "I like old R&B. Motown, girl groups, James Brown ..." She trailed off. "The melodies are so good you don't need to do a lot of flashy stuff to make them sound right."

Warren totally wasn't judging, here, and his little smile and thoughtful nod demonstrated that well enough.

"Any of those sound good, I think," he offered. "I mean, I don't have much experience with music at all. My dad always figured it was counter-productive. But what I do know about that stuff, I haven't hated or anything."

"Ugh, strict parents," Quinn commiserated. "Oh -- if you can't find any Motown in the game you like, you could sing a punk song. It's just shouting."

Warren, shouting. Two words that did not often go into the same sentence.

It would be kind of hilarious.

"... That sounds easy enough," he noted with a little tilt of his head. "I mean, anyone can shout, right?"

"It sounds like it," Quinn said, wrinkling her nose. "And you can mumble, so no one can tell if you forget the words."

Quinn ... was not so much a punk expert. Surprise.

"Mumblepunk," Warren offered. "I could create a new popular genre of music thanks to that suggestion."

Not very likely, really. But...

Quinn laughed. "I'm here to help. So how'd you end up buying this, anyhow, if you don't even like music?"

"Well, someone had mentioned that maybe Karla could stand to play more video games. She's kind of taken up baking as a hobby, I think."

Anyone who knew Karla would know why this was a terrible idea.

"... But other hobbies are good," he said, keeping his real reasons vague, in case Quinn didn't already know. "And she said she was interested in this one, and shooting games."

One of these things was not like the other.
