Rock Band Party, Tuesday Evening, First Floor Rec Room

Karla and Warren had celebrated their return to their proper forms in the way that many teenagers would find appropriate: they'd headed back to the modern mainland, found a toy store, and bought a gaming system (or three). Along with the games they bought to go along with said system, they also picked up a few guitars, a keyboard, a drum set, and two microphones.

Once back in the rec room, the rest of the afternoon had been spent setting up the systems and buying every single song available for the game. Waiting for them to finish downloading actually took longer than the initial setting up, even taking in Karla's attempts to 'help'.

But now the system was set up, the songs were ready, and the instruments prepared.

[Open for anyone who wants to play. [livejournal.com profile] not_a_parakeet modded to an ungodly degree with permission! Just a warning about SP and Karla's threads--I will be AFK all day, but if you're willing to wait until Thursday that's fine by me.]

"If nothing else, it's a chance to sing badly and still get marks for it," Warren laughed. "I can't see anything the matter with that."

He wanted to go running in the other direction so that he wouldn't have to, but he still didn't see anything the matter with it. Honest.

"I think," said Alexander with a grin, "that perhaps you sell yourself too short, Warren."

"And I think you've never heard me sing," Warren replied, grinning right on back. "For all you know, I could have the singing voice of a slightly slow seagull."

Which, as everyone knew, wasn't so great.

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
"This is quite true," Alexander allowed, "but for all I know, you equally may have the voice of a fresh morning dove. Really, though, there is only one way to resolve this burning question."

"Run out of the room and not look back until people forget I was ever holding a mic in my hand?"

No, Warren. That probably wouldn't be what Alexander had in mind.

"Oh, no, my friend," Alexander laughed as he shook his head, patting Warren on the shoulder with his free hand. "I think you'd best get to singing."

"You know, you're going to completely regret this in three minutes," Warren decided, looking at the screen and scrolling his way through the menu, looking for a song that he actually knew. "When the mob forms with torches and pitchforks."

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
"I will proudly and happily inform them that they should focus their attentions not on the monster, but on he who has unleashed it," Alexander said. "But we shall cross that bridge when we come to it."
wwiii: (Are you for real?)

"I appreciate that." At least it got a laugh out of Warren, however nervous, as he read over the songs at his disposal. "Now I'm mostly worried that I got way too much variety. Maybe I'll just sing some Elvis or something."

He knew who Elvis was. That helped.

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Tell me," said Alexander pointedly. "Does this Elvis fellow have a song about stalling?"

"... I bet I could find one if you give me enough time?"

That would probably be a no, right there.

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
"I should like to get to know how your singing is sometime before the night is over," Alexander teased.
wwiii: (Pondering)

"Right, right," Warren replied, biting his lip before finally settling on a song that he'd at least heard once in his life. It was mushy and stupidly romantic, but at least it wasn't one of the quarter million that was about caged birds and angels.

"Don't laugh?"

Of course, that would be when the music started.

There was no way in hell Warren was going to be able to get his voice that deep.

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
"No laughing," Alexander even set down the cat so that he could lift both hands in a show of honest and trustworthiness.

Although, really, once Warren got started, that promise became a bit more of a challenge that Alexander would have anticipated.

Oh, if looks could kill, the one on Warren's face... would probably cause a small headache. Warren wasn't the most imposing guy out there unless you'd really earned it.

"Wise men say..." He wasn't terrible, but he was certainly not meant to be a crooner.

At all.

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
No, not terrible, but Alexander figured Warren might have picked a better song.

Not that he wasn't thoroughly enjoying the performance as it was, of course.

Warren probably would have picked a better song, if he'd had any idea at all just what his vocal range was like.

Sometimes, it wasn't enough just knowing the words.

In any case, he managed to muddle on through, looking by the end of it as though he was just about ready to fold himself in his wings and never come out again.

"You should have stopped me before I got to that 'river flows' part. That was bad."

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
"It could have been worse," Alexander said with encouragement. "It would have made a lovely funeral dirge."
wwiii: (Hrm More)

[personal profile] wwiii 2011-07-13 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't know if that makes me feel better, or if I want to kind of light the game on fire now," Warren admitted, squinting a little. "So do I get to hear you sing, now? It's only fair."

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't think everyone else would take too kindly to lighting the game on fire," Alexander said with a chuckle, then a nod. "And you're absolutely right. Fair is fair, and so just give me a moment to figure out how to pick a song..."

A moment, or a bit longer; technology and Alexander had yet to find a good compromise with each other. Due to this, Alexander wound up being unable to pick a different Elvis song to sing, and wound up with something completely different (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXvmSaE0JXA).

What in the heavens was this? Still, Alexander stuck with it, and, really, Ariel had made him do much worse in Glee Club before...

This would be Warren, biting the inside of his cheek to keep from openly grinning. Yessir.
