Rock Band Party, Tuesday Evening, First Floor Rec Room

Karla and Warren had celebrated their return to their proper forms in the way that many teenagers would find appropriate: they'd headed back to the modern mainland, found a toy store, and bought a gaming system (or three). Along with the games they bought to go along with said system, they also picked up a few guitars, a keyboard, a drum set, and two microphones.

Once back in the rec room, the rest of the afternoon had been spent setting up the systems and buying every single song available for the game. Waiting for them to finish downloading actually took longer than the initial setting up, even taking in Karla's attempts to 'help'.

But now the system was set up, the songs were ready, and the instruments prepared.

[Open for anyone who wants to play. [livejournal.com profile] not_a_parakeet modded to an ungodly degree with permission! Just a warning about SP and Karla's threads--I will be AFK all day, but if you're willing to wait until Thursday that's fine by me.]

"Not when you can't sing," Sookie drawled ruefully. "I can dance fine, though, so it all evens out."

"Ooh, you can?" That was good to know. Just know, Sookie, that she was making a mental note of that to record for future events.

Hmm. Southern. Able to dance. There was only one place to go from there.

"Do you know the Hoedown Throwdown?"

"The what now?" Sookie asked, raising a brow.

[identity profile] its-theclimb.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh. It's a dance." Miley shrugged. "It's pretty easy. You wanna try? I'm pretty sure it's on here..."

"I'm like, ten years out of touch, honey," Sookie said with a little laugh. "I hail from 2000. But sure, I'll try."

Since she wasn't used to hearing a twang around these parts that wasn't her own, she had to ask, "Where're you from, anyway?"

[identity profile] its-theclimb.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! The southern thing finally came up. "Crowley Corners, Tennessee," she replied proudly. "You know you're the first person I've heard with a southern accent around here so far? It is such a relief, let me just say. Where're you from?"

[identity profile] justwantsquiet.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Bon Temps, Louisiana," Sookie said, just as proudly. "Yeah, it's mostly yankees and people from other worlds, seems like. There were a couple southerners around last year but I might be the last holdout. And I leave at the end of summer, so you'll have to carry on the legacy."

[identity profile] its-theclimb.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I'm used to it, anyway," Miley said with a resigned little shrug. "I've been in L.A. for the past few years, and there are, like, no southerners there except for retired country singers."

Like, of course, her dad.

"I'm Miley, by the way."

"Sookie," she said with a little wave. "Yeah. It took me a little while, but half my best friends and my boyfriend are from New York -- the ones who are even from Earth. Don't stop people from mockin' my accent all the time, though."

[identity profile] its-theclimb.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
"I know, right? I said the word 'possum' once and I got all sorts of weird stares!" Miley exclaimed. Finally, someone who understood southerner problems. "I don't even wanna know what'll happen if I bring up, oh, mac 'n' cheese and bacon or square-dancing."

Actually, Miley? Possum was totally the weirdest one on that list.

"I keep making grits and I keep being the only one eating them," Sookie said sadly. "And everyone's always making fun of my colloquialisms!"

[identity profile] its-theclimb.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Grits! Colloquialisms!

"I will totally have some of your grits if you try my catfish stew," Miley pledged. Beware, Sookie: She left in the eyeballs.

"And no mocking of the colloquialisms, or you'll have to be the millionth person to stare at me when I say 'Oh, sweet niblets.'"

"When I won prom queen, I yelled 'shut the front door' and everyone stared," Sookie told her sadly. "And of course I will try your catfish stew!"

She was used to Karla.

"Hey, congrats!" The only prom Miley had been to was her junior prom, to which she had accompanied a guy who was not exactly prom king material. But maybe here she'd have a shot if Quinn didn't claw her eyes out for trying!

"And you totally should. I make, like, the best catfish stew ever. You don't mind the eyeballs, do you?"
