Rock Band Party, Tuesday Evening, First Floor Rec Room

Karla and Warren had celebrated their return to their proper forms in the way that many teenagers would find appropriate: they'd headed back to the modern mainland, found a toy store, and bought a gaming system (or three). Along with the games they bought to go along with said system, they also picked up a few guitars, a keyboard, a drum set, and two microphones.

Once back in the rec room, the rest of the afternoon had been spent setting up the systems and buying every single song available for the game. Waiting for them to finish downloading actually took longer than the initial setting up, even taking in Karla's attempts to 'help'.

But now the system was set up, the songs were ready, and the instruments prepared.

[Open for anyone who wants to play. [livejournal.com profile] not_a_parakeet modded to an ungodly degree with permission! Just a warning about SP and Karla's threads--I will be AFK all day, but if you're willing to wait until Thursday that's fine by me.]

"One of your things?" Marshall asked. "So you can do other stuff, too?"

He's trying to not immediately go, 'OMG, take me flying!' But -- FLYING!
selfhelphero: ([pos] tiny smile at you)

[personal profile] selfhelphero 2011-07-13 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I can kind of make lightning?" Billy said, sounding uncertain even though it wasn't really a question. "I'm not used to being able to be open about this stuff. I really have to keep it a secret at home.

[identity profile] wheeler-360.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"At this point I'm kinda just smiling and nodding whenever someone tells me they can do stuff," Marshall admitted. "I mean -- it's not that I don't believe you? Because I do! You have no reason to lie, or anything. I just, this stuff is so far outside the scope of my experience. Back home, like, weird things happen? But the world outside of Blake Holsey is pretty normal. No one has powers or anything.

"So don't be offended if I have a quiet little freakout on my own later? I'll have it, I'll be done, and I'll be good, I promise." He offered a bit of a grin. "And, hey, if you're up for answering any questions some time about how this stuff works for you, I can probably come up with a few." Dozen. Hundred. "Simple one, though: is this kinda stuff fairly common in your world?"
selfhelphero: ([neu] listening and looking up)

[personal profile] selfhelphero 2011-07-13 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't mind answering questions, especially if they might, like, downgrade your freakout," Billy said, with a smile of his own. "It's not that common to have powers at home, no. If there were more of us, we wouldn't have to hide our identities. And for me, well, my parents are super normal. They'd totally flip if they knew I wasn't normal too."

[identity profile] wheeler-360.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Marshall nodded. "It's kinda the same back home," he explained. "I mean -- there's just a few of us who know what's going on, with the weird stuff? Most people see to just kinda explain it away, or ignore it, even when it's affecting them directly. I can't imagine what would happen if my parents knew the truth -- it's bad enough they pulled me out when-"

He hesitated, but, hey, Billy had admitted the whole powers thing, which he seemed really nervous about, so. "-a friend of mine kinda... disappeared? And it freaked out a bunch of parents, mine included, who pulled their kids out. Which means now I'm here instead of back there helping find Josie."
selfhelphero: ([neg] not so sure about this)

[personal profile] selfhelphero 2011-07-13 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"She disappeared?" Billy said, frowning at the thought. "Do you have any idea where she is? I mean, do you think she ran away, or do you think something bad happened?"

[identity profile] wheeler-360.livejournal.com 2011-07-14 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Josie wouldn't run away," Marshall insisted. "No, there's -- Blake Holsey has a wormhole in the science professor's office? We're pretty sure she's lost in there somewhere. Probably in another time. But we can't figure out when, so we can't go get her back."

He sighed. "At least, if I had to go somewhere, it's here, right? If I'm going to find something to help her anywhere else, it's probably here."
selfhelphero: ([neu] my curiosity is officially piqued)

[personal profile] selfhelphero 2011-07-14 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, absolutely. I've heard there's a locker than sometimes traps people, but everyone's gotten out of it okay," Billy said. "Maybe...I mean, I'm sure your friend is okay, it's just a matter of getting her back."

[identity profile] wheeler-360.livejournal.com 2011-07-14 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
"No one's ever gotten seriously hurt," Marshall said. ... Conveniently forgetting about a previous disappearance, one that brought the current science professor to the school in the first place. "So it's... She's got to be okay. She's probably just stuck in the past. Again."

Yes, again.

"I'll have to see what I can find out about that locker. Maybe it acts like a portal? If I can figure out that one..."

[personal profile] selfhelphero 2011-07-14 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
"The fact that there's an 'again' involved in being stuck in the past is a good sign, since it sounds like she survived that once," Billy said, trying to be optimistic. "And it sounds like it was definitely a good thing that you ended up here."

[identity profile] wheeler-360.livejournal.com 2011-07-14 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Last time, we found pictures, so we knew when to aim for," Marshall explained. "So if we find something -- anything -- to indicate when and where? We could probably rescue her tomorrow." Hopefully. If they didn't end up somewhen without a wormhole again.

"But yeah, it's... A part of me really wishes I was back there? But they're not making any progress there, either, and it's nice here. There's so much to learn -- about all the different worlds, the different people..."
selfhelphero: ([pos] talkity talk)

[personal profile] selfhelphero 2011-07-14 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
"...The different things those people can do," Billy said, only half-teasing, since that interested him too. "It really is nice here. I thought I'd hate being away from my friends, but it hasn't been so bad at all."

[identity profile] wheeler-360.livejournal.com 2011-07-14 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Don't think I've forgotten that you promised to answer questions about what you can do." Marshall grinned at Billy. "I'll probably hold you to that."
selfhelphero: (Default)

[personal profile] selfhelphero 2011-07-14 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't mind. It's nice to be able to talk about it," Billy said. "I just hope I can answer your questions."

[identity profile] wheeler-360.livejournal.com 2011-07-14 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
"I bet anything you can tell me would be interesting," Marshall said. "I mean, even if it has nothing to do with helping to find Josie or anything, it's just cool.

"Hey, you should at least let me buy you a coffee or something for letting me badger you about it."
selfhelphero: ([pos] laughing with eyes open)

[personal profile] selfhelphero 2011-07-14 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, free coffee and a chance to discuss his abilities with someone? That was too good of an offer for Billy to refuse. "Well, you don't have to do that, but the coffee here's really good, so if you insist..."

[identity profile] wheeler-360.livejournal.com 2011-07-14 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Marshall nodded. "It would make me feel better about asking all the questions," he insisted. "And, hey, at least consider it payment for showing me where the really good coffee is?"

Because coffee is important!
selfhelphero: ([pos] talkity talk)

[personal profile] selfhelphero 2011-07-14 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Billy laughed. "All right, it's a deal. Just don't share the secret of the good coffee with everyone."

[identity profile] wheeler-360.livejournal.com 2011-07-14 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
"I promise," Marshall said. "I"m in 518 -- let me know when's good for you? I only have classes on Tuesdays, so my schedule's pretty open."
