Second Floor Common Room, Tuesday Night

Soooo, Kenzi had gotten the video she'd asked for from Topher... of various shots of Wes while he was teaching her about guns. And put it to a soundtrack. Then hooked up a DVD player to the TV in the Common Room and concealed it. It was on an infinite loop.

So, at random moments, Kenzi would amuse herself while watching The Spy Amnesia Movie on the Science Fiction channel by hitting the remote button, and having Wes interrupt it with his campaign.

Wes's video is nowhere near as complete or complicated as that one, but is mostly shots of him being badass and showing off guns to Kenzi, interspersed with "Vote Wes! For Fandom StuCo! Guarding Your Welfare!"]

"You did really well at the debate," Kenzi admitted. "Wes came off like such a dork. Especially with the dancing. He's just not made for public arenas, I swear. And your ideas made sense, you know? I guess it can be more than dance-planning if people want it to be." She paused. "I don't have the public spirit or the interest to do it, but someone should."

"Dance planning is awesome," Petra said, "don't get me wrong, but I think it needs to be more than that, you know? And the number of people who have asked me if I'm new or just someone they haven't met yet is frankly disturbing. This is not a big school; is everyone just hermits?"

"Some of 'em," Kenzi admitted. "I've only been here two months, but I know I haven't met everybody. And I have a few friends who are such geeks they're glued to their laptops all the time, and you have to pry them out of their rooms with food or a crowbar to get them to notice other people." She bit her lip. "Plus, new people come in every couple months, I guess? And people are animals sometimes, or some people go home for visits a lot, so. Hard to keep track."

"But you would think people would...I don't know, see people in the halls enough to recognize them as new or not new, you know? It just seems weird," Petra admitted.

"You would? But, sometimes you don't have classes with someone, or hang out here. So I kinda like your idea about finding out who everyone is," Kenzi said, reaching out for the shiny, shiny poster. Just to touch it. Shiiiny.

"Yeah," Petra said. "Well, we'll see. The election hasn't happened yet, someone else--" and then someone else on top of that "--could swoop in and take it, I'm not counting my chickens." Petra wasn't going to stop Kenzi, but, "Please try not to knock all the glitter off?"

"Promise," Kenzi said, hands up. Hey, she picked pockets! She was ept. She just liked shiny things. A lot. Klepto-ness. "It's a great job. Mine are pretty simple, except for adding in the music-makers to Annie's. I'm not artistic like this."

"Oh, well," Petra demurred, "this isn't my best medium. I'm better with fabric, but I thought making campaign banners might be a little much. But if you throw enough glitter on it it hides a multitude of sins."

"You make ... scarves and stuff?" Ooo. What did she had to trade for more shinies? What would Petra want? "With like, spangles and rhinestones?" Of course, they may not match up to the poster....

"I can," Petra confirmed. "I sew a lot of my clothes. Like this skirt," she said, gesturing to it and swinging her hips to make it swish a little.

Kenzi leaned forward, watching it swish, and feeling immediate clothes envy. "Really? Seriously? You're good." She could mend her own stuff-- she had to, to make it last long enough-- but anything more than that and she was lost. She bit her lip, eyes going crafty but hopeful. "Could you, or would you, have time? To make more?" Kenzi's immediate instinct to con or cajole was drowned out in favor of shiiiiny. "I could pay! Or get you stuff!"

"Maybe," Petra said, a bit wary because, Kenzi. "I usually just do stuff for me, but maybe we could work something out."

"After the election. You're busy now," Kenzi temporized, not wanting to apply so much pressure that Petra changed her mind. "Mostly I shop thrift. Or online." Or five-finger-discount. "But for nice stuff, it pays to pay."

Respect the artist. She didn't respect much else, but for effort and real prettiness? Yes. Worth stealing money to pay for.
