The Gym, Sunday morning

After a series of good and/or at least interesting dates last night (where he learned some new things about some of his classmates, naturally), the knowledge that each of the Student Council candidates he'd given a little support to had done well (not that it was possible for them not to), getting to yell at someone about guns and having her back down, and a solid week of learning in class and out, Bruce was in a genuinely good mood today. He even had a slight smile on his face, and he wasn't faking it like normal.

Yeah, it was weird for him, too, so he was hitting a punching bag pretty hard. Maybe if he hit it hard enough, his hand would start to hurt and he'd be able to take the edge off of this good mood and he'd be able to get back to his normal state.

[OOC: Open gym!]

"Like bouldering or do you actually hook up all the harnesses and shit?" she wondered.

"Hawaii, Himalayas... You're just all over the place, aren't you?" Not that Kate hadn't been over the years, but those were two she hadn't made it to, and she'd been a little more stationary over the last year or so anyway.

"Worth going to?" she wondered.

"My world, it's probably beyond inaccessible." She knew it used to be visitable before the Shift, but with the return of magic, a lot of areas, especially the more rural ones, had long been taken back by nature. "It's hard enough to hold onto the cities, let alone the rest of the planet."

"Maybe if the school gets adventurous in the field trip department, though."

"We had a sort of... apocalypse. A few years back." The world had never really recovered. "It's made travel inconvenient at best, downright dangerous at worst." Depending on how far it was you were trying to go.

Kate shrugged. "I've never known anything else, so--" It wasn't like she knew what she was missing, aside from what the history books told her.

Well, not until arriving here, anyway. It was going to be tough to go back to.

"Crime rate in Atlanta's a bitch too," Kate offered lightly. "All cities have that going for them." Which was precisely why she preferred not to spend too much time in them.

"I think this world is what mine would've been like before the shift. Scarily close, actually."

Kate shrugged, deceptively casually. "There's not much to miss." It bothered her, yes, but dwelling on it got her nowhere.

"This is one time when 'living in the past' is the better choice."

"I think all that would do is make me feel like a charity case." Which she didn't much like the sound of either, and her mouth pursed in distaste.

"I'll have to go back eventually. Probably shouldn't get too comfortable."
