Bruce had no interest in dealing with the television today. It was going to just show something that some people would think he'd find embarrassing, he wouldn't be embarrassed (or even annoyed), and that would be it. But there was enough embarrassment and annoyance going around the dorms today, it seemed, so Bruce was going to try to tackle that in some small way: with cake.

Sure, he didn't usually eat much junk food, but he figured that a day when someone changed genders might not be so bad if it was changed to the day when someone changed genders and also had cake. In the meantime, he was just going to read a book about chess strategies while having a piece of cake himself.

For some reason, Annie had to look down to make sure her boobs were still there, like maybe they'd disappeared and she simply hadn't noticed till now.

"That happens here?" she asked, relieved.

"Last year it hit the boys and girls at the same time. it lasted two days," Bruce said. "And it started away from the island. So it could probably be worse."

Oh, hello panic. "That happens away from here? Like I could turn into a boy at any time?"

"I wouldn't say that. It seems to happen only once a year, so you should be safe," Bruce said.

"I hope so. I think I'd rather the craziness, or waking up clay that time." She paused. "Okay, that's a lie, I don't want any of those things."

"You woke up clay?" Bruce asked. "As in you had turned to clay, or clay was awakened because of you?"

"I woke up, and I was myself, but made of clay. And I had a wind-up crank in my back. Sleeping was really difficult," she said.

"Not one for sleeping on your side?" Bruce asked. It was one of the easiest and more bizarre things he'd ever had the opportunity to deduce about someone. "I have to say, that's probably one of the odder transformations I've heard of."

"It was that weekend where everyone turned into someone else," she said. "Not the last time, but the time before that."

"I don't think I was in town for that one," Bruce said. "Be thankful for small miracles, I suppose. Much like you today."
