Fifth Floor Common Room, Saturday Evening

Petra wanted to do an orange and black half-moon manicure for Halloween, so she carted her supplies down to the common room and started flipping through channels on the TV, looking for something to provide background noise while she worked and entertainment while she waited for her nails to dry. She found...crazytown.

After a few moments of jawdropped amazement, she concluded, "I don't know who this drunk lady is but I appreciate her commitment to insanity."

"That's a pretty good idea," Petra agreed. "Don't drink or you'll end up thinking you're a...pirate ghost from Vienna. And your parrot is a phoenix." She realized what Annie was doing and held out her right hand for inspection. "I'm going to use the orange to do a half-moon thing once this dries," she explained.

"That's so cool," she said, sounding impressed. "I think everyone has more patience for their nails than me. The second it chips I need to fix it, but then it doesn't look uniform, and then I need to get rid of it all... It's time-consuming."

Or Annie had issues. Either one.

"I know what you mean," Petra agreed, "but I sew and knit and stuff, so I'm really hard on my nails, I'm forever using them to pick at stitches and stuff. So I've learned to accept a certain degree of not-always-perfect." She shrugged. "But if I had my way they'd be perfect all the time."

"You do that? Do you make any of your own clothes?" Another thing Annie didn't do, so she was so amazed at the idea of someone actually doing it.

"Yep," Petra confirmed. "I actually make a lot of my clothes. It's easier, because I'm so freakin' tall and I have a fit problem at the crotch, and it's cheaper, because I'm broke. And I can just, you know, make what I have in mind instead of searching a dozen stores and half the internet and still not finding it. My mom taught me. She's a seamstress." She gestured to the cloud-printed pajama pants she was wearing. "I made these pants. I didn't make my hoodie, though, I mean, who sews their own sweatshirts?"

"Oh, I know, right?" She had no idea. "Is it really that much cheaper? I ask because I have no money."

"It depends," Petra said. "I mean, like anything else, you can spend crazy money on fabric if you're not careful. And you can buy, like, a Corporation-made t-shirt from China for cheaper than you could buy the material. But, like, I wear a lot of skirts and dresses, and I save a ton of money that way."
