Fourth Floor Common Room [Saturday afternoon]

The newbies had been on the island for an entire week! Rapunzel was pretty sure that at least some of them had to be feeling overwhelmed.

Besides, she hadn't had a chance to meet most of them!

But that was okay. Rapunzel had a solution to both of those problems! Baking. Lots and lots and lots of baking! Cookies, brownies, muffins, and cupcakes were already strewn over most of the flat surfaces in the common room.

And now? It was time for pie!

Rapunzel's tongue was caught lightly between her teeth as she caaaarefully worked to separate egg whites from their yolks.

Hopefully people would show up soon to either help bake, or help consume the results of all the baking. But either way, Rapunzel intended to take the opportunity to smile broadly and talk to them!

Bah! It was like Rapunzel had never gone to Karla's Kulinary Klasses or something! (The K stands for 'Kwality!')

"Well, we want this to be savoury instead of sweet, right?" Karla pointed out, unfazed by Rapunzel's growing alarm. "So we'll replace with sugar with the garam masala. Easy-peasy."

Rapunzel was really frowning now. "That's not how it works," she said.

At least, she was pretty sure it wasn't. Her early experiments with that kind of thing at home had been monumental disasters!

"Have you ever made mincemeat curry pie?" Karla asked. "I mean, no offense, but you thought it only had fruit in it!"

Karla really wasn't trying to be a jerk! She was just certain this would work!

Well, that was a point, but...

"Have you?" Because you really shouldn't mess with a recipe that you didn't know. Unless you were really, really good.

Maybe Karla was really, really good?

"Nope!" Karla said cheerfully. "This is a recipe of my own invention. I'm still tweaking it!"

By 'tweaking it' she meant she'd just gotten the idea and was running with it.

"But I've been baking for years,." Two, in fact. Had had managed several small fires and an exploded kitchen.

That was talent!

"Still tweaking it..." Rapunzel frowned. "But you just looked up the recipe."

Karla was nodding in agreement.

"So you've never made it before?"

"Nope!" Karla said cheerfully. "I wasn't entirely sure what mincemeat was before I looked it up!"

This could only end in awesome, though, right?
