Second Floor Common Room, Sunday Morning

Ever since the broadcast on Monday showcasing Daala's brutal violent response to slave uprisings, Ender had been busy: busy writing emails, busy coordinating with his people in Ben's universe, busy privately worrying about where all of this would lead - with or without him.

But eventually he'd run out of things to do, as impossible as it had seemed at the start of the week. Somehow, that message hadn't quite reached his brain, for he still felt jittery and concerned; keeping a lid on it around Ben had just made it worse.

So in an effort to calm down, he decided to hit up the common room for breakfast today. Got two packages of microwavable pancakes out of the fridge and opened them up, using his deft microwaving skills to produce a stack - mostly in hopes of luring in someone to talk to.

Unlike certain people of his acquaintance, he didn't actually care much about the taste of his breakfast.

She nodded, thinking back to introductions. "And you're Andrew?"

"Andrew Wiggin," Ender agreed, "Though some call me Ender. You're welcome to opt for either of them."

He considered the remains of his pancakes, but he really wasn't so hungry anymore.

"I haven't seen you around here much."

"That's usually how I like it," she said as she worked. "This weekend I seem to accidentally be social."

Ender smiled. "I hope it hasn't been too traumatizing."

"Somehow I think I'll manage," she said. "Or after work tonight I'll end up locked back in my room until the next time I want tea."

"If it's such a hassle, why not bring some with you?" Ender asked. "We've got plenty."

"I may. I wouldn't call it a hassle," she said. "Though I do wonder why there always seems to be three floors between me and where the tea is."

"The universe, conspiring against you?" Ender suggested. "Maybe it's just something Fandom does - I've given up on predicting it."

If the universe was conspiring against her, and she often thought it was, she felt that it would be in very different ways.

"You think Fandom is controlling the location of the tea?"

"Wouldn't be the first time something that ridiculous happened," Ender pointed out. "Actually, it's practically the norm."

"I suppose that would be better than it pouring out of the faucets," she conceded.

"If I was the type to anthropomorphise the island," Ender said, "I'd say it might be driving you out of your room on purpose."

"Somehow I'd think the island would have much bigger problems to solve than me keeping to myself," Susan pointed out.

"Hot chocolate from the faucets," Ender said simply.

"That does seem to be a theme, yes," she said thoughtfully.

"Or," Ender continued, "Whoever stocks our common rooms gets lazy and dumps everything on the second floor, leaving only scraps for the upper floors."
