abitlowkey: (that I did not expect)

2nd Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

The television was on in the common room. And there was a tiny god watching it.

That was not the strange part of what was happening, though. The strange part was what was on the television. It was a channel that proclaimed itself to be 'Logo' and the players upon the stage were men in dresses and made up as though they were women.

And yelling at each other quite a bit.

"Huh." He could only wonder if his brother knew of this.

[ooc: Open like a common room!]

"Oh, I don't think that's true," Anna said. "Boys have it so much easier."

"Maybe in some things," Butters allowed easily enough, with a faint frown on his face, "but girls get all the pretty clothes."

Anna had one dress, Butters. One dress. For eternity.

She smoothed her skirt and said softly, "And more rules about those clothes, too."

[identity profile] geewhizfellas.livejournal.com 2012-03-06 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, but that's part of what makes it fun!" Butters bounced a little. "And, hey, you know what they say, rules were made to be broken!"

There was a slight pause, filled with a guilty glance toward the door, and then Butters lowered his voice. "But not too much or else you'll get grounded," he added, for good measure.

Anna looked very sad now. "Oh, I wish."

[identity profile] geewhizfellas.livejournal.com 2012-03-06 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that wasn't the kind of response Butters was looking for! Seeing Anna get all sad made him sad, too, frowning and wondering what he had said.

"You wish you could break the rules?" he asked. "Or get grounded? Because anyone can break the rules, Anna, but I don't think you wanna get grounded. That's the worst. But if you really wanted to, I guess I could ground you. You would just have to go stay in your room all night with no dessert and no TV."

She wished she'd just been grounded--or not so headstrong, that she hadn't openly defied her mother instead of pretending to accept her punishment and sneaking out later. "Well, there's no TV in my room anyway, and I'm not hungry," didn't eat, same thing, "so that wouldn't be much of a punishment," Anna pointed out. "I wish...I don't know what I wish."

[identity profile] geewhizfellas.livejournal.com 2012-03-06 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
"I wish a lot of things," said Butters thoughtfully, offering Anna a faint smile that he hoped was a little encouraging, "but you know what they say. If wishes were cows, we'd all be havin' steak tonight. But I think what I wish most of all is that people are just happy and nice to each other, and it might not be much of a punishment, but, hey, you're not grounded, Anna, so that's one thing to be happy about, right?"

"Well, I sort of am," Anna said. "I can't leave the island. But that's the island being strange, I've been told, so it's not like I'm really being punished."

Any more.

She smiled at Butters and said, "That's a nice wish."

[identity profile] geewhizfellas.livejournal.com 2012-03-06 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Kinda like how sometimes, I think the dorms make me wind up in other common rooms when I'm trying to get to this one," Butters offers, smiling more now to see her smile, too. "And thanks! I think it's a nice wish, too, and, hey, if I were grounded and it meant that I had to stay on the island, I'd be okay with that. There's lot of fun stuff to do on the island, so you don't even have to worry about gettin' bored or nothin'."

"It's certainly better than just being stuck in my house," Anna said, maybe a mite too serious, because, well. She would know.

[identity profile] geewhizfellas.livejournal.com 2012-03-06 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Much better," Butters agreed emphatically, in his typically completely clueless fashion. "Don't get me wrong, sometimes I miss home an' everything, but I like bein' here so much better."

"Oh, I don't miss home at all," Anna said with feeling. Except Cas, she missed Cas.

[identity profile] geewhizfellas.livejournal.com 2012-03-06 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Butters's eyebrows lifted.

"Not even a little bit?"
dressedinblood: (Anna is determined)

[personal profile] dressedinblood 2012-03-06 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Not one tiny bit."

She had a scary home, Butters. She had a really scary home.

"I don't think the house is there any more, anyway," she added without really thinking about it.

[identity profile] geewhizfellas.livejournal.com 2012-03-06 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Not there anymore?" Butters asked. "Why? What happened to it?"
dressedinblood: (Default)

[personal profile] dressedinblood 2012-03-06 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
"It collapsed," she said with a shrug. "Probably. I'm not really sure."

[identity profile] geewhizfellas.livejournal.com 2012-03-06 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
"If it collapsed and people were in there," Butters said, eyes as wide as saucers, "then you'd know about it, right, because people would have gotten hurt? So maybe it's a good thing you don't know, because that means no one got hurt?"
dressedinblood: (Default)

[personal profile] dressedinblood 2012-03-06 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
"No, everyone got out," Anna said. She knew that with absolute certainty; she'd still been mostly in the house at the time, and she always knew when there were people in her house.

This was not a good thing.

"I'm just not sure about the house. It wasn't in great shape."

[identity profile] geewhizfellas.livejournal.com 2012-03-06 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
"So, yeah," said Butters with a nod, "it's probably a good thing you're not there after all. It's no good livin' in a house that might collapse at any moment. My friend Kenny lives in a house like that, but they reinforced it with beer cans and cinder blocks."
