Just a few weeks left in Fandom and still so much for Bruce to do. He'd spent many sleepless nights over the course of the semester mapping out sketchy places on the mainland where he could pick fights for some group fight practice - warehouses that served as bases for gangs, unruly bars, a couple dark alleys... - where he wouldn't be causing any issues that didn't already exist. Well, aside from broken furniture, perhaps, some broken faces, and maybe broken crime rings. He'd have to play it smart, but maybe with a little help he could get some good training in.

Of course, plotting this out only worked while there were no distractions. And there on the TV was a terribly compelling movie called, simply, All Animals vs. All Humans. Normally Bruce could have ignored this kind of science fiction animal attack movie, but the concept seemed compelling. All animals versus all humans? The stakes were high. And he happened to look up during a scene in which a duckbilled platypus venomous-foot-spurred a man to death. And how could anyone look away while that was happening?

Planning be damned, there was a giraffe on the screen now, and she looked angry. Bruce was hooked.

"Yeah, but if you're trying to secure a campsite or something," which was, after all, where Petra's main experience lay, "it would be above where you could risk blundering into it. Plus it might act as a tripwire and knock it over."

As to the second, she agreed, "That's probably true. You never see a limping giraffe. Although that might be because lions."

"That's probably right," Bruce mused. "I imagine giraffes don't have any kind of animal medicine so much as they have a slowed down friend who can buy them a little more time when the lions come."

"Too bad the guy in this movie doesn't realize that."

"Yeah, the guy in this movie doesn't seem to be very smart," Petra agreed. She considered her polishes and asked, "What do you think? Lilac or pale yellow?" Given past experience he was probably not the guy to ask, but whatever, he was here.

As long as she wasn't asking about what color he'd prefer on his nails, he could have a actual opinion. "I say lilac. It seems more festive for early spring to me."

That was because he was a stick in the mud. "Lilac it is," she agreed. "So, why is the giraffe trying to kill this dude? Did he insult its giraffe mom?" she wondered.

"Nothing that creative. All animals are attacking all humans, according to the title. I didn't spot any specific reason for it," Bruce said.

Petra finished carefully applying color to her thumbnail, then looked up to tell Bruce, "Well, then we're fucked. The insects alone outnumber us like a gazillion to one."

"That's been an undercurrent for the whole movie. Whenever you least expect it, somebody's being swarmed with bugs," Bruce noted. "I actually appreciate that kind of detail in a movie called All Animals vs. All Humans. They don't skimp on the animals."

"That's good, it would be bad if they forgot the insects. They might get mad and make the movie come true," Petra joked.

"And if there's one thing worse than a swarm of insects, it's a swarm of insects who can't stand inaccuracies in movies," Bruce said, shaking his head oh so sadly.
