2nd Floor Common Room | Tuesday Evening

Jim had brushed today's class off about ten minutes after he'd left the classroom. It was ten questions, pointless in the grand scheme of things, and Jim wasn't going to let ten questions put him inside some kind of box.

Tomorrow, he'd planned on finally getting out and seeing what this little island had to offer. Maybe he'd hit up that bar Cade had mentioned to see what was the what there. Tonight, he was staying in and spending some time in the common room.

Feet up and head pillowed by the cushions, he'd already fallen into a habit of flipping through channels to find something interesting. Television during this time period was all kinda...lacking.

Eventually, Jim stopped on some movie when an explosion caught his eye and switched his attention to the apple he'd taken from the fridge. After taking his first bite, Jim decided the apple was much more entertaining than the movie.

"Oooh, explosions." And just like that, there was a Topher settling on the couch with a bag of chips.

"This any good?" he asked with a nod toward the TV.

"Yeah, I'm captivated," Jim said, voice dry. His attention wasn't anywhere near the television. He'd glanced over at Topher and then gone back to eating his apple.

Hey, he was getting his allotment of fruit for the day.

"It's amazing."

"Hey, some crappy movies have entertainment value," Topher pointed out, picking up on the sarcasm there. "This one might rank."

Unless it was SyFy. Then there was no hope.

"Topher!" It'd been aaaages. Mostly Kenzi's fault. But then, "You didn't take me to Haiti with you! Dork."

Topher blinked. "Who told you I went to Haiti?"

Ulrik had come to the common room in search of food. Food that someone else had recently prepared, preferably, although he'd take pre-packaged snacks just as gladly.

Like this bag of Oreos.

"You look decidedly unimpressed," he noted.

"It's taken me five minutes to realize that television in the past -- present -- whatever is boring," Jim explained, glancing up at Ulrik. "It's very disappointing. Where's all the good stuff? Did I miss it?"

"I wouldn't know," Ulrik admitted. "I'm from the seventeenth century, myself."

A very special version of the seventeenth century that actually did have television (in a handful of cities, at least), but the programming was still somewhat limited.

This wasn't his floor but Stiles could make a living off of showing up at places he had no business being. "Please tell me there's more than fruit in the fridge."

"Sure there is," Jim said, looking up. "Lots of food in there...if you wanna get fat."

"Dude, look at me, I could stand to gain some weight," Stiles said, heading over to the fridge. "A light breeze could knock me over."

"Oh, god," Topher declared. "My chips are no longer safe."

"Depends on what kind of chips they are," Stiles joked. "I'll fight you for salt and vinegar ones."

That fight would last all of two minutes and end with tears on both sides.

"I suppose I don't actually need to finish the entire bag of these myself," Ulrik said with a dramatic sigh, gesturing at the bag of Oreos he'd claimed earlier.

"Oh my god, I love you!" Yeah, he was totally taking advantage of offered Oreos. "I can't wait until the Halloween ones come out, they taste so much better."

Ryan was in a slightly grumpy mood after her first class. She only came to the common room to get a glass of milk. But she figured that the movie (not to mention a common room full of boys) might be better than dwelling on how things went earlier today.

"Is the movie any good?" she asked.

"Yes, it's thrilling," Jim said, sounding about as non interested as you could in anything. He was halfway done with his apple and still wasn't paying the movie any attention. "I'm blown away by this cinematic masterpiece."

"Ahh. I take it you're not a fan, then," said Ryan, taking a seat on the couch. She had no idea what the movie was, but she hoped she sounded like she knew what she was talking about. Sometimes, it was tough being the kid was about six months behind in pop culture.

Arietty had ventured out of her room for some borrowings, only to discover that the common room was full of people for once. She scaled the couch with a set of tiger claw spikes made from picture hangers, then perched on the top, tilting her head at the television.

"What are we watching?" she asked no one in particular.

Jim had definitely heard something but he didn't immediately see anyone who wasn't already in the common room. If he'd been anyone else, he might have attributed it to hearing voices but he wasn't crazy.

"Uh, some stupid movie." Maybe someone was hiding? He didn't know.

Juliet had been reading, but her trashy vampire book was not quite trashy enough to hold her interest. Book still in hand, she went exploring in search of company. She found it one floor down.

"Jim!" she smiled, and found a place to sit at a good angle to the screen. "Hi! Are you settling in okay?"

"I found a really crappy movie and don't have classes again till next Monday," Jim answered, giving Juliet a wave. "I think we're looking pretty good on the 'settling in' scale."

Kenzi had not been Dealing With New People, but what the hell. IT was probably time.

She flopped onto a couch and tried to take up as much room as possible. "Where's the remote? This needs to change."

"Kenzi!" Arietty called. She slid down the couch, bouncing almost a foot into the air when she hit the seat cushion. "The movie needs more kissing!"

Jim gave her a sideways glance for that one before pushing the remote down between his hip and the cushions.

"Dunno," he said, shrugging. "Must have gotten lost. Guess someone'll have to pop for a new one."
