Fifth Floor Common Room, Wednesday Evening

Tonight, Toby decided, was a 'laze around in the common room with pizza and hilariously terrible movies' sort of night.

Which was why there were a number of pizza boxes on the table, and Cactibear- that made-for-TV classic about a half-bear, half-cactus that killed base-jumpers- on TV.

Aww yeah.

"What is that?"

Olive was actually a floor up from where she belonged and there was food for her to focus on too, but hey let's be honest, her attention was not on much of anything aside from what the hell was on that TV.

"Oh man, have you not seen this movie?" Toby grinned. He was usually the one who hadn't seen stuff. "That's the Cactibear!"

...Way to clear it up, Logan.

Mercy waved at the girl she hadn't met before, that's what happens when you miss the welcome picnic. "Looks like something I'd really rather never run into."

After today, Jim knew the island a little better than he had before. He'd actually gone into town, scoped out the bar (but hadn't gone in) and then come back and taken a look around the dorms a little further.

Creeping around for free food could excused because he was new, right? Whatever, he'd found a guy with pizzas and some movie that he hoped was better than what he'd been watching last night.

"That's a lot of pizza, man," he remarked. "Stocking up for a nuclear winter?"

"Well, I figured I might get a few people wandering in looking for free food," he shrugged. "So, because I am a nice guy, I decided to oblige."

"Are you complaining?" Olive asked, shaking her head disparagingly at him. "It's free, Jim. Free. I'm stealing like half of it and saving it for breakfast tomorrow. Because it's free."

Yet another person she hadn't met. She couldn't miss another one of those picnics.

"People always tend to order extra food," she said, snagging a piece herself. "They know everyone will come out for it. Sometimes the delivery places just seem to bring extra."

"Why is that bear spiky?" Loki asked, already perching on the back of a couch. Like a normal person. Perfectly normal.

Well that was- it was pretty hard to surprise Toby, what with the telepathy and all, but this kid managed it.

"Because it's actually half-cactus," he explained. Totally logical.

"It's a Cactibear," Olive said helpfully, like she hadn't asked that same thing like two seconds ago. "Also, are you like, a bird-person?"

What? It was probably a thing.

"Never seen one of those before," Mercy said, finally dragging herself out of her room to do, well, something other than hide out in her room or go to class.

The smell of the pizza might have helped as well.

"Me neither, thankfully," Toby said. He wasn't a base-jumper, so he'd probably survive, but that didn't mean he wanted to run in to Cactibear in a dark alley or something.

"Is that bear a cactus? Oh my god that bear is a cactus."

Why yes, Sparkle was draping himself over the arm of the couch and leaning in to get a better look at the television.

... His room was several floors down, but his pizza sense had been tingling.

"It totally is," Toby nodded. "A murderous cactus, at that." Because those were the best kind.

"Of course," Olive replied, glancing over and using every fiber of her willpower to keep from staring. Because at least Sparkle looked like a normal sort of different, to her. He wasn't a pink pony, to start. "Did you somehow expect it to be a bear or a cactus? Here, we say 'why choose?'"

She'd been making her way up to the roof, just to explore it, but the sounds of chatting and the smell of food had drawn her attention so, putting off the roof, she'd drifted over to the common room.

"Is that a common monster on this planet?" Yeul asked curiously.

This was a perfectly normal question, really. Her world had loads of monsters. This one didn't seem to, but maybe that was just on the island and all the monsters were elsewhere.

"No," Toby shook his head. "Thankfully, it's just fictional. Entertainment."

The island had monsters! Just... not for very long, as Fandom's population didn't generally go for that sort of thing.

"They're not," Sparkle replied, grinning over the arm of the couch at the girl with blue hair and a necklace made of pony beads.

Maybe she was some kind of candy-raver. Sparkle was cool with candy-ravers.

"But watch your ass if you ever see a drop bear."

He'd missed the drop bears at graduation. How unfair was that?

Petra came to the common room carrying a couple of bottles of nail polish, in case she decided to do her nails while watching TV. Then she saw pizza and decided that could wait for a while. "What are we watching? It looks insane," she said, not sounding like this was necessarily a bad thing at all.

"Cactibear," Toby informed her. "It's about a half-bear, half-cactus that kills base-jumpers."

"You are not wrong," Olive said, waving with her pizza slice. "It's about as crazy as it looks. I don't even know how a cactus-bear mating is biologically possible."

After the strangest gym class in the history of ever, Hanna needed to unwind somehow. That lead her to wander the dorm until she found people.

"I've seen weirder things," she said when she glanced at the television.

"Really?" Well now Toby was intrigued. "Like what?"

"Why is that bear all spikey?" Jessica asked pretty much immediately after walking into the room and glancing at the TV. "Also, hi. But why is the bear spikey? Is this a bad movie night?"

"Because it's half-cactus," Toby explained. "And it's an awesome movie night." Awesomely terrible, but still. Awesome.

"Oh my god, what are we watching?" she asked as she helped herself to a couple of slices.

Kenzi threw herself down next to Toby, and grinned at him. "Who are we rooting for? Predator or predat-ee?"

"Well, the Cactibear is kind of the bad guy, but most of his victims are kinda douchey, so..." he shrugged. "It's a toss-up?"
