Cade was being followed around by a karking animal today. A talking karking animal called a hy-eeda or something.

"STOP EATING THE COCOA PUFFS."

...that apparently shared Cade's taste in breakfast cereal.

"Kark me," Cade groused, flopping onto a sofa.

"How come I have to eat eggs and you get chocolate cereal?" Victor asked Remedios, before he answered Cade.

He shrugged and turned back to Cade. "Like that," he agreed. "Like guardian angels, or your conscience, or -- whatever. Only shaped like animals."

"I don't like it," Cade said.

"Yes, you've said that to just about everyone," Camelai replied, looking over her shoulder at him. "Breathe, Cade. Change is not always cataclysmic."

"It's ... kind of cool?" Victor offered tentatively. "Once you get over how weird it is to have animals commenting on our life choices. Spirit animals are a thing, right?"

"Maybe?" Cade said, looking a bit dubious. "I mean, they aren't where I come from. We just have ghosts."

Victor looked interested, if a bit uneasy. "That's like the one thing that would be weird where I'm from. You see ghosts and stuff?"
