RPG Night, Sixth Floor Common Area, Wednesday Evening

There'd been a ~~handwavy~~ email sent to the student body inviting them to games night, but Victor realized as he set out notepads and dice and stacked the manuals neatly by the chair he planned to sit on that he might be in over his head. He'd played tabletop RPGs a couple times, sure, but run a game?

Well. Fandom was all about new experiences, and the Lightning Bug premise seemed like an easy hook. He leaned back to study the manual one more time and waited to see who would show up.

Okay, so the practicality argument maybe hadn't been thought through that well.

"Probably not," Victor admitted. "I just ... think it's funny the game has them. Also, you should play. You're creative."

"I'm not sure my creativity lends itself well to the RPG setting," Olive noted thoughtfully. "More of a 'lying to people in real life for sport' kind of person. Besides, it looks like kind of a boys' club."

"You could play a spy or a detective," Victor suggested, squinting at the character sheet. "Confuse us with your wiles for fun and profit. And how will it stop being a boys club if girls don't play? Besides, Ace is playing."

"You make a compelling argument," Olive said, frowning. "I mean, I did mostly just show up to make fun of you."

Said she in the reindeer sweater.

"You'll be able to make fun of me next time we do this much better if you try it once," Victor said, trying to sound persuasive and beginning to feel more like an RPG pusher. He laughed a little as he added, "C'mon, the first hit's free."

"Tabletop games are gateway nerdiness," Olive countered, grinning. "Next thing you know, I'll be dressing up as some superheroine at conventions and I'll know what hit points are."

"Which would make you an even more amazing girlfriend than you already are," Victor pointed out. "And you would rock spandex and a cape."

"Play your cards right and I might do it anyway," Olive said, waggling her brows as she picked up a character sheet to examine it. "Like, metaphorical cards. I don't know what playing these cards right would even mean. Are cards even involved in this game?"

Victor raised his eyebrows suggesting he was in favor of this very interesting idea, then shook his head. "Nah, no cards unless the character sheets count. Basically you roll dice to make decisions. "

Geeky, geeky dice.

"Funny-shaped dice," Olive sighed. "Why the multiple sides? I mean, why even use dice? Isn't this just like, the power of imagination and stuff anyway?"

"I think it's so geeks don't spend 20 minutes arguing about whether their troll could beat up the goblin king or not," Victor answered. "People get really intense about this stuff."

"Is this going to come to blows, Victor?" Olive asked solemnly. "Should I maybe sit this out as a referee in case you and Tony get into a fight over whether a shepherd can beat an engineer?"

"Maybe you should," Victor suggested, just as solemn. "Somebody has to protect us from ourselves. Anyhow, Stark's a sore loser."

"He seems like the type," Olive said dryly. "I'll play RPG cheerleader-slash-ref on this one. Maybe next time you can con me into being a wood-elf or something."
