Third Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

For some reason, the TV in the third floor common room wouldn't budge from ABC Family tonight, which was how Topher found himself watching a marathon of Swapped Upon Delivery. Besides the fact that it was about two angsty girls and their drama, it seemed like a pretty good show.

Of course, he wound up missing huge chunks of it while he was playing with his laptop and the characters were signing at each other instead of speaking aloud. By the fourth consecutive episode, he looked up from his laptop, watched the rest of a scene whose beginning he'd missed, and gasped, "They broke up? Noooo!"

So he was kind of liking the show. Shut up.

"They'll be doing the nasty with other people before the next season begins. Have you seen the angry girl?"

Emily might or might not have been projecting, shh.

"Like onscreen and stuff?" Topher wondered, momentarily distracted. "Ewwww. I don't wanna watch that."

"If only," said Emily with a devilish smirk. "This is for little kids after all. They'll be just talk about it, probably. Lots and lots of poorly made metaphors."

"I might need to find a new show," Topher decided. "That sounds... not good."

"Hey, don't quote me on that. There might be more important drama going on so everyone forgets about it." It wouldn't be that weird, really.

"Here's hoping," Topher said, still looking a little grossed out. "All the kissing on this show is already bad enough." He gestured to his laptop. "I brought a buffer."

Emily tried not to make a face. She mostly succeeded.

"What's wrong with the kissing?" She wanted to hear this.

"It... involves mouths touching?" Topher explained. "And germ transfers, and smacking noises, and generally I have learned that it's only a fun experience when you're doing it."

"Yeah...but you know the people doing it, even when they aren't you are probably enjoying it, right? It's fun for the rest of the world."

Why was she even explaining this?!

"A.) They're on a TV set," Topher pointed out. "It is not fun for them. I Googled it. And B.) So what? I still don't wanna watch it."

Emily grinned. "All the actors that end up together after making a movie might disagree. Even if it's work, kissing is proved to be nice in lots of ways."

Emily then waved a hand. "Buuuuuuut. You can ignore it too, I suppose."

"Duh, of course I can," Topher agreed. "But thanks for the permission, random blonde girl."

That was not nice, Topher.

"I guess it's commendable to try and follow a teen drama without making sure to know who kissed who."

Emily would not forget that. For now, she was all smiles.

"I... do... pay attention?" he pointed out. "Hello, shipping Angry Girl and Weird Face Guy here. I just don't wanna watch the making out, 'cause gross."

"I bet people tend to call you weird."

Emily was beginning to lose her tact.

"Not as many as you'd think," Topher corrected her. "Why?"

"Because you're a bit weird. I don't really care though; you actually remind me of someone."

Somewhere in the multiverse, Nolan was suddenly getting shivers and he didn't know why.
