Third Floor Common Room, Monday Evening
For some reason, the TV in the third floor common room wouldn't budge from ABC Family tonight, which was how Topher found himself watching a marathon of Swapped Upon Delivery. Besides the fact that it was about two angsty girls and their drama, it seemed like a pretty good show.
Of course, he wound up missing huge chunks of it while he was playing with his laptop and the characters were signing at each other instead of speaking aloud. By the fourth consecutive episode, he looked up from his laptop, watched the rest of a scene whose beginning he'd missed, and gasped, "They broke up? Noooo!"
So he was kind of liking the show. Shut up.

A pause to let the first part of the story sink in. "So, my dad died." Emily's good mood vanished at once; actually saying the words out loud filled her with hatred and the need to do something stupid, but she swallowed it as soon as it started to show and covered it with real sadness. "And I was...sent away. Some years ago this guy came and found me; I need really cared about his business with my dad because I was little, but now the guy was ridiculously rich, and seeing how my dad wasn't around, he decided the least he could do was give me the forty-nine percent of his company. It's...I don't even think I can imagine a number high enough; it's ridiculous. But I have to be an adult, and that's going to happen on March, so until them I'm just...trying to first get my bearings as an economically stable person before becoming a ridiculously rich person, if that makes sense at all."
Emily took a deep breath and added, "Wow, I've never told this to anyone."

Which made it different from nearly every story ever in no way. Jokers gonna joke.

"I wish it was something like that. Or a heist. At least I won't have to care about the lack of birthday gifts with ridiculous amounts of money I guess? Or college. That too."

"For the record, that's not me. I'm already exploiting other friendships for tech company experience, so I won't have to do that to you."

She laughed at Jessica's assurance she wouldn't try to use their friendship. "But I do own about half of a pretty huge, pretty amazing company; you don't have to exploit anything if you just ask, you know?"
