Between one thing and another, Kate had never actually watched a live episode of the TV show Bow Arrow.  But she had downloaded all the previous episodes and watched them on her laptop.  Just for professional curiosity, you know.  Someone was making a TV show about a superhero with a bow!  It was almost required she watch.

...and he was really, really hot in the training montages that showed up in almost every episode.  Yeah, she totally watched this for the plot.

"Duh," Topher said. Sorry, Kate. "Also, you know, it looks really good. Like, in the back."

"Oh look, the hot guy on TV is shirtless and working out," Kate said quickly, trying not to actually flail.

La la la, she was not thinking about Topher and his appreciating of Billy's ass. And she wasn't thinking about Billy's ass.

"But his clothes are impractical," Topher sighed. "I can't deal with it. Can we change it? There's a Discovery Channel documentary about fish on in ten."

"It's a TV show. It's not supposed to be real," she said. "And we're so not watching a documentary on fish. I can't deal with that."

"Okay, you did not just diss fish."

"You heard me right."

"You're talking to a part-owner of the Maria Stark Penguin Sanctuary or whatever," Topher said -- all dignified-like, right up until the 'or whatever.' He actually wasn't sure what it was called. "I cannot stand for this, madam."

"A) Penguins aren't fish," Kate felt the need to point out. "And B) Take a seat on the couch then."

"I know, they eat fish," Topher said, in a tone that implied a duh. "Therefore, I have to learn all about them to make sure they're safe for Antonio and his friends."

Antonio was the world's coolest penguin. Fact.

"You have two laptops. Do research online." Her tone was also full of the duh.

"These are not research laptops," Topher sighed, taking the duh up a few more notches. "They are gaming laptops." And then for good measure, he actually added, "Duh."

"Your gaming laptops can't access to the internet?" Kate asked. "What, do you play against yourself?"

And if he put on one of those Time-Life Operator headsets, she was never going to stop mocking him.

"Of course they can!" Topher objected, scandalized. "But it's a separation of things!" He waved his hands vaguely. "Like not eating a sandwich with steak!"

"...steak sandwiches are a thing," Kate pointed out. "Like a Philly cheesesteak."

Because that was the point of course.

"...Huh. That sounds really goo-- I mean, gross."

Sure, Topher.

"Yeah, totally gross," she smirked.

"Anyway I can't believe you're going to rely on a tv program to help you with your penguins instead of looking up the information yourself." She'd dealt with geeks before.

"Because you're totally blown away by how smart and efficient I am, right?"

"...how did you even come up with that?" Kate asked, staring. (Because that out of all of this was the thing to stare at) "And no. Not that."

"Well, then I'm stumped and don't care," Topher concluded, hopping off the couch. "Want any popcorn?"

"Only if you don't trade it for control of the remote," she said. Seriously, Kate, stop giving him ideas.

"I will trade you the popcorn," Topher said, "for control of the remote."

"There is no world where I want popcorn enough to watch fish on TV," Kate informed him.

"Even Locating Meeno?" Topher countered. "It's a really good movie."

Kate wrinkled her nose. "How about Bilo and Smitch."

That had fish in it somewhere, right?

"Please." Topher raised his eyebrows. "There is no contest between that and Meeno. I mean, not that I've seen it. But it seems obvious."
